Hey guys
I have an old bass boat, and the seats are bolted directly to floor...so when you sit your knees are practically over your head, very uncomfortable..I am thinking of building a "box" under the seats to raise them up about a foot, That would make sitting easier and provide underseat storage..

Right now I can feel every bump and wave as it comes through the seats..so I am trying to think of a way to create a "buffer" or shock absorbing layer.

My thought was to buy some kind of rubber gasket and have it on underside of the plywood that connects to the floor and maybe, under the top piece of plywood...

Do you guys have any ideas/suggestions or hacks you do?

Thanks

I have a fourteen foot Jon boat that I had the same issues with whenever someone rode on the middle, bench seat. their knees were in their chin and it didn't take very choppy water to make it really uncomfortable. I built a dry box that I mounted to the top of the bench seat using 1/4" plywood and then fiber glassed the whole thing, inside and out. I cut a channel around the inside of the lid and glued some weather stripping into the channel so that it seals when the lid is closed, making it fairly water proof. this gets your knees above your waist and helps immensely. if the water gets really rough I put a seat cushion on top of the box. A guy could get one of those cushions that mounts to the top of an ice chest that that is strapped down and just leave it on. I keep my keys, wallet, phone, rain jacket and some other odds and ends inside the box. This may not be exactly what your looking for but I hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Go to tractor supply and buy a tractor seat, remove the seat from the suspension, mount boat seat and your done. cheapest way to go! If you need seats the tractor seat will work also. It slides forward and back. They have one that swivels. $100 each.

Captain Mac that is a great idea, I ended up using your adivce and built a 6inch platform with pressure treated wood and then coated it in waterproofing paint.. Now when I sit it is way easier to get back up and it 10x's as comfortable. Thanks for the pictures it gave me a good visual!

Also Donald, those tractor seats are a very cool idea. I'll let you know how it rides after we take it out and see how the new base works against waves.

Thanks guys!
