Heading to El Salto Friday morning. I'll be fishing 5 days. I'm staying at Pro Bass and talked to Doug today, but was curious if anybody had any additional tips about going. It'll be my first time, so I'd appreciate any advice a newbie like myself may have not thought of. Any special lures, suggestions about the guides, just anything insightful really. Plan on making my last tackle run to bass pro and/or cabelas tomorrow. I appreciate it guys. Hopefully I'll have a great experience to share when I return.

You'll have a blast. The info Pro Bass provides is spot on. Yellow magics on mono, white magnum flukes and 8" lizards on flouro, 20 lb test. No need to overpack; can have clothes laundered for small fee. Light jacket in morning. Guides English skills varies but adequate. Enjoy!

May 1996. Everyone on the trip, all 8 people caught a bass over 10lbs. I caught my PB. All we needed then was 10 in. black Berkeley Power worm rigged on a 50lb braid Texas rig with a 5.0 Owmer hook 1/2oz black worm weight. Sorry, I am reminiscing, just never got to go back to El Salto after that. Good Luck

Thank you all for the good info. I'll pick up some mend it today. I think I have the other suggestions covered minus the white mag flukes. I have a lot of mag flukes in WM seed and WM red that I use at Falcon.
I tend to be an over packer, so I will keep that in mind and keep it under control. smile
So excited, I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight.

there's no true way to fully prepare lol. You'll have every bait in your arsenal, and while they all produce...inevitably, 1 lure will outcatch them all and you'll wish you had 20 of them hahaha. For instance, the 2 time's I've visited (huites and picachos)...both trips I had enough lures to stay a month. Ran out of senkos at picachos midway through day 2. 6" watermelon red yum dingers. Couldve fished the entire trip on 1 lure and saved the travel woes of carrying half of cabelas with me. I will say this...if there is a weakness in your presentation...any bait where you lack confidence...deep spinnerbaits, swimbaits, jig...whatever the case may be....keep one tied on and throw it during your trip. you will learn SO MUCH about these baits, and likely include them in your arsenal upon return FOREVER.

Best of luck, and I hope you wear your thumbs out. Get ready for great hospitality, awesome food and friendly service. This entire country could learn a thing or two about what youre getting ready to experience.
