Usually not good news when a "capital" business buys these tackle companies. Things start changing and usually quality goes down

Yup....analytics has hit all industries...for good. .and bad...cheaper materials will save money, but in the end, reduce quality

I have been a big fan of Lews and that's all that I own. Pretty much because I felt that they were trying to bring it back in it's full glory of what it was originally being built to be. Now, I don't have confidence that they will be made with quality in mind but rather cost. I'm probably going to start buying other bands in the future.

Seriously? These are your first reactions to that news???
  • "sold out"
  • "quality goes down"
  • "cheaper materials"
  • "reduce quality"
  • "RIP"
  • "don't have confidence"
  • "start buying other brands"
You LIKE the reels but you're ready to walk away because an acquisition MIGHT change something?

I can't believe the completely unsubstantiated negativity. Nothing in the press release even hints at these predictions. In fact, it pretty clearly says just the opposite and everything I've heard from Lew's directly confirms that.

This could be a tremendous growth opportunity for Lew's. If Lew's was struggling, I could see an argument for concern but they have been kicking arse the last few years. One thing holding them down is having enough money on hand to do what they need/want to do. Along comes a sugar daddy with deep pockets that offers to essentially stay out of the way and enable them to continue their growth trajectory.

End result? An already profitable company grows even faster! This is how good companies get even better and that's successful investing, not a death knell. Not every acquisition is a Gordon Gekko rape/pillage/plunder.

This could have any interesting outcome for the company. Will be looking to see what will come of it.

Pretty much what I've already thought about doing.

While I completely understand your reaction and thought process, AND am a fan of the free-market capitalism system we operate in America. USUALLY, when something like this happens, we are right. A deep pockets investor/buyer sees a well respected product that has made a comeback after taking somewhat of a downturn, and decides, I can use that name brand, in this case LEWS, and acquire it for the name, slash costs and then increase profits x-fold. Thus, giving me x amount of return on investment without having to do the work of building the brand. It's what free-market capitalism is all about to some degree. Unfortunately, it is a tale told to often that the quality diminishes once an acquisition is made, and I believe some, myself included, are simply playing the long term percentages with our comments, that we have seen play out time an time again when acquisitions are made. History has proven we may be right. That's all.
