Let's talk scent and soft plastics...This year I said I wasn't fishing a lure or buy a lure that didn't have scent on it or in it...How important is it and do pros use scent a little or alot

not that important... Presentation and location and profile WAY WAY more important... scent is an afterthought for me... that said, I dont use a ton of strike king stuff, but their plastics smell AMAZING!

I dion't believe it attracts fish, but I do believe it may make them hold on to a bait longer.

it's a question of confidence , if you believe humans have a " smell" and our smell appears to be that of a predator , then masking our smell is good . If you also believe that a bass , or any other fish can "smell" food , then using something that achieves both would be good . Presentation , lure type etc... are important , but making that bass think it smells " good " can't hurt .
Take a Senko , put it in a ziplock baggie with some fish attractant for an hour and let that bait soak it in . 100% confident that bait works better than without it .

I don't know if it does help or not but I know I have caught more fish on scented soft baits than unscented. Who knows...

What about chicken liver and catfish? There is really no presentation on that. Throw it on a hook and chuck it out there. Again... who knows.

I like to dip mine in sure with garlic. I feel that they hold on longer. No way to know if it truly helps but it makes me more confident which probably makes me fish it better therefore it helps me.

Years ago a guy I fished a tournament with on Toledo Bend scented all his plastics with anus oil. Didn't catch near as many bass as I did. I fish'em just like they come out of the bag, if they have scent or not. Haven't seen any scientific reports that confirm it helps but if you're confident it does by all means use it.

And where did he get his anus oil?

I wonder if the anus oil works for Crappy too or just bass?

Slight error in spelling, should have been ANISE OIL. My bad, was kinda funny though.
