I'll be fishing for crappie pretty heavy this spring on a brushpile I've been building on Lake Buchanan. I'm looking for recommendations on jigs. Traditionally I have used white with red head 1/32 oz. jigs with mixed results. The brush pile is in 12' of water. What have you had best luck with?

On Lady Buch I would use a jig with a combination of blue, chartreuse and white in an 1/8 ounce.

Thanks for the good info! Do most of y'all make your own jigs, buy them off the shelf, search ebay and retail websites??

I have not had time to purchase anything from this company, don't know them, but I think it was over on Facebook very recently where one of the guys was using their crappie Pro Line Crappie Jigs and really having a big day. I bookmarked it, then later checked the website; it is a family owned business out near Abilene. I like to experiment so I'll give them a try next time I put together orders for what I want or need. I'd likely make a contact . . . they might be able to make a recommendation regarding best colors for different water colors and conditions. Brad A source for crappie jigs

Rtread, if you would like to PM me your name and address, I would be more than happy to send you a sample that should treat you well during the upcoming fishing season.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

With those sickle type hooks would you use curly tail grubs or what?

With those sickle type hooks would you use curly tail grubs or what? Most serious crappie fisherman use sickle hooks exclusively nowadays. Get the crappie right in the roof of the mouth and they stay hooked better than the Aberdeen style. I use them for all my plastics and my hand tied jigs. Take Lane up on his offer and you will be placing an order shortly after. He makes the toughest baits I have seen and has excellent quality control on his baits. Also check out Thermocline lures if you get a chance. They are another excellent local bait manufacturer.

Thanks! I'm on a pretty steep learning curve here and fascinated with it. My days of buying cards of marabou jigs at Walmart appear to be over. Thanks, guys.
