I think Lufkin is the best city for bass fishing in the state of Texas. There are 9 public lakes about an hour from Lufkin that have officially produced bass over 13lbs. These include the big lakes of Livingston, Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. Where else are you going to find that?

If it wasn't for work in Houston, I'd take a chance and move.

Thanks, Billy

The fishing in deep east Texas is pretty incredible. I've lived here for going on 4 years now and have beaten my personal best multiple times.

Livingston is a target casting lake that does test your skills.

I'd agree with those two great lakes anchoring my yes vote for Lufkin.

We are very close here in Athens to the same sort of "fishing heaven" with Lake Athens, itself, then a 20 minute drive to Lake Palestine, 40 minutes to the Tyler Lakes, 20 minutes to Cedar Creek Lake, 20 minutes to Purtis Creek, 3 minutes to Athens Fish and Game Lake (private), 30 minutes to Richland Chambers, 60 minutes to Fairfield, not much longer or farther to Tawakoni and Lake Fork, too. And, several rivers including the Trinity. Whew! Then throw in Gary Yamamoto's private lakes less than 30 minutes away.

I'm likely overlooking several more and endless private ponds and small lakes. For sheer numbers, Athens with its road systems: 19, 31, 175, 59 and near I-45 and I-20 is tough to beat, too. It certainly offers a wide variety of fish species to fish for.

I'd settle for San Augustine. Hop, skip and a jump to Toledo Bend or Sam Rayburn which in my opinion are the two best lakes in the country. And, you don't have to buy a fishing license from another country.

Yeah but you have to live in Atlanta. Lol.

It's hard to argue with Athens or Lufkin IMO.
