The license plate to my boat trailer is missing. Not sure if it was stolen or just came off. What steps do I need to take in order to get it replaced? With the new laws concerning trailer inspection I can not get the trailer inspected without a license plate which is to be expected but I also can't get my registration without the receipt for the trailer inspection. The lady at the tax office wasn't very helpful so any advice would greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

If the current registration is still valid, it shouldn't be an issue to get a replacement plate. Sounds like you just got someone helping you that really doesn't want to help

I thought the trailer had to tow x amount of weight for it to be inspected? Not sure.

Just pay a nominal fee for a new plate if current. If expired you might need to buy a temp tag

Last time I re-registered went to put the new sticker on the plate and it was gone - no idea how long it had been gone but the little plastic bracket was broken - just paid the new fee and got a new plate. Just took the registration notice I had to the tax office and they transferred it to a new plate number - no problem getting a new plate.

The plastic bracket broke off on mine and I lost the plate somewhere. I went to the local DPS/DOT office and paid a small charge for a replacement. Now I've added two wires from the plate holes to the trailer as added security in case the bracket breaks again.

Yep....those plastic plate holders break very easily when backing the trailer into the water.

I actually found mine and bolted it to the fender.

I lost mine 2 or 3 times. I finally replaced the bolts on the plate holder with key rings and I've never lost another one since then

Yeah you got someone who wasn't helpful. Should be a small fee to get new plate as stated above. Not a big deal at all.

I lost my tags a few years ago as well and the cheap plastic brackets are no good. After getting my replacement tags I used a heavy mud flap and cut it to fit in the same spot were the plastic bracket went. It has worked out great.

The metal on the plates will rip when you pull the trailer out of the water.

I use the stainless nuts with the plastic thread lock and leave the plates loose enough to swing a bit. Never lost one since I did it.
