I've only experienced it a couple of times so dramatically but in that first picture above there was a small hole in the clouds revealing bright blue skies above and turning what had been grey water to the blue reflection you see. The area of water in the picture was all that was blue from my vantage point as just a few yards further out on both sides in picture were gray as was the water behind me. I knew it wouldn't last long and took the picture as more clouds were coming. Picture below taken about 40 minutes earlier.
