I see the catfish grips that some of you are using on the larger catfish. They have some at Academy & I picked a couple of them up there for $16.00.

Has anybody tried the ones off of EBay for $6.50 from China?

I figure they are made in the same plant from the same mold.

The dimensions are identical to the ones I got from Academy.

They sure do help on the big catfish to handle them.

I haven't had any luck with bass pro, cabellas or academy grips but have had a couple of pairs of team catfish grips for over six years and they are still going strong

Take a look at these. I have had many types of grips and these have worked extremely well! And the price is great compared to the Boca grips too!

Team Catfish grips. Hardy and last.

Don't clamp them on the rails or anything thick.

I use the white ones from Academy I think. Just store them open and they work great. I stored them closed and they lost grip. After I left them open for a few days they came back to life.

I'm glad this came up, I fondle the grips at academy occasionally but wasn't sure they were worth the $$$. Gonna get a pair next trip. Maybe keep some slime off my hands..

I started off with 2 of the black & white Rapala fish grips and broke both of them trying to get a 50lb flathead into the boat.

Now I'm onto the (white glow in the dark) Yak Gear brand from Academy.

I did order a set of the $6.50 ones off of EBay just to compare and see how they hold up.

The composition of the plastic is probably the most important thing as they all look like they are poured from the same mold.

I remember the old days when you caught them in the gills or mouth and just wrestled them in the boat. thumb Now days I use Team Catfish Grips and finish the day of fishing with all my skin on my hands and no puncture wounds. Saves money on Neosporin and Alcohol. cheers

X2 for whisker seeker grips.
I've broke many many plastic grips from most companies and sprained my wrist a few times and don't have to worry about that with these. They rotate 360 degrees. They are built like a tank. So far they are awesome and we'll worth the money.

The big argument for using them is protection against flesh eating bacteria through bites and punctures. The odds are low but I do have a buddy who got finned by a fish on the coast, picked up the bacteria and it cost him two fingers. I think $20 for a pair is a sound investment.

I have two pair and they have never failed me, unlike three of the plastic ones.

I have callouses on my knuckles lol

I have a pair of the green BassPro but the little keeper slid halfway out on a 25 pound fish so I am leary of gadgets.
