I called Lews and asked about general maintenance after a day in the saltwater, and he told me to wipe it down with a light lubricant.. Not sure what he meant by that. Is he speaking of something like WD40 or is he talking about that Reel Magic stuff?

Also, he told the oil he recommends in it is Lucas reel oil. Do any of y'all use a different type of oil in yours?

This reel is the Team Lews Lite.

Thanks

I've used Rem Oil in my H20 Xpress's and CU-200 Curados but wasn't sure if it was safe to put in these high dollar reels. Guy from 13 Fishing recommended me to use Rem Oil in my Concept C but everybody else says no.. I'm not sure

I guess while I'm at it, any recommended oil to use in the Concept C reel?

Royal purple synfilm oil on the bearings after u flush the bearings and get all of the factory grease out of them. Best reel oil I've ever used and one small bottle will last for years.

I don't really plan to ever take these reels apart and grease them. I'd say about every 6 months to a year I'll send them to 13/Lews and have them do a full cleaning/service on them.

Just looking for input on oil to use for bearings. From the looks of it, we're looking at Purple and Rem oil.

Hot Sauce is prolly the best you can find fairly easy. DO NOT spray with WD-40, it will desolve grease and oil! Don't know your fishing habits but every 6 months is not enough if you fish on a fairly regular basis!!

No do not use Hot Sauce!! I used it for a little while when I first started out. It has particles in it that will get stuck inside the bearings and moving parts and youll have to clean it all out again. Using the oil provided by Abu Garcia is great, I personally use TG's rocket fuel. You can also use lightning by Boca that's very good too. Rem oil is OK but you will have to reapply it several times.

Been using Hot Sauce since it came out on a regular basis and have never had any issues! There are other good lube out there try what you feel is best for you.

I use hot sauce as well but only on the worm gear. I find it "sticks" better in that situation over other oils. Bearing oil I use TSI 321 and have also used Boca's lightning lube and like it. I agree with the Ardent Reel butter being garbage. Not a fan of that stuff at all.

Also curious that Lew's told you to use the Lucas oil reel oil as it has not been around that long. Wonder what they recommended before that? Did you talk to an actual reel tech at Lew's or just customer service? The reel tech is going to be the one with all the knowledge.

Talked to a reel tech in the service department named Garrett. He told me really any kind of oil that's not to thin/not to thick is good, but he said that Lucas is what he recommends.

Ahh ok got ya. That's interesting to know. I have yet to try the Lucas stuff though. But everything they make for cars that I have used has been great so it should be pretty good.

I'm still kind of debating what to put in it.. Everybody is saying hot sauce, reel butter, rem oil, royal purple, and the Lews guy said Lucas, but he's the first person I've heard of that said to use Lucas. I've always used Rem oil in my old Curados and H20 Xpress's, and 13 Fishing said to use Rem oil. I'm really wondering if Rem oil would be fine in the Lews. I guess either of the above would work fine

I grew up using 3 in 1 oil on everything and still fish dad's reels all the time, never had any problems at all. I am using Rem Oil and Reel Butter on my Lews reels here weekly.

One time at the world shoot I was visiting the Perazzi booth and watching their smiths work on their shotguns, I asked one what lube he was using on his brush as these were 5 figure price shotguns his comment as he showed me the container, Valvoline 50 wt oil he said that was what they use at the factory!

I'm just going to use Rem Oil.. I got a thing of Rem yesterday for my Concept, and I just figured I'll put it in my Lews as well. I saw that Reel Butter but I read a lot of bad reviews on that stuff.

Anything with Teflon in it (like Remoil) will eventually gum up. Its great on external non moving parts but not for internal moving parts unless you clean and lube at least every 6 months. I've had that stuff cause misfires in rifles and pistols.

My reels are used several times a week usually all year long all weather, they are cleaned 1-2 times a year and lubed monthly, never any problems.

Who cares. Just oil it. Most people don't even oil their reels.

Cleaning your reels once every 6 months will ensure they last a long time. Especially if they're quality reels

Not negative at all actually. I think some oil is better than nothing. I use the Shimano oil that comes in the box on all of my Curados.
