Cannot tell a lie, I'm awful at the hole jig and boober fishing be it in the spring or winter. Can you experts help a fellow fisherman out with advice and/or pictures of your setup. Either I'm not patient enough or something....lol thanks in advance as I bet I'm not the only one....lol....I don't mind asking for help when I need it

youtube is a good place to go. There is everything from making your own bobbers from wine corks to rigging up.
I use the twine available from Academy. Place it on your line, next is a bead, (keeps the bobber from slipping up the knot), now the bobber of choice. Mister crappie bobbers work for me. Depending on the depth and the wind, I will just tie on a jig or add a small sinker above the jig.

If I remember correctly, there is a diagram or picture on the bobber stop packaging. This is what I used to learn. Hickory explained it correctly too. Good luck. Then there is always the clip on float that clips to your line, which works if you're not fishing deeper than your rod length.

Another good point is to make sure your bobber is balanced correctly. Meaning, you don't want too little weight on there as it will make the bobber lay down and will not be as sensitive. You also don't want too much weight as it will sink your bobber and it also won't be as sensitive. I would also advise using the cheapest bobbers you can buy because you will lose a lot of them if you are fishing in the right places. I usually get the cigar ones from walmart. +1 on youtube!

I like the little dog bone shaped ones if I am fishing deep because they go thru the guide eyes better than any of the others. The only issue I have with them are they are tiny and you have to have good eye sight to thread the line thru the holes. If fishing shallow I simply use a small rubber band. I use the smallest bobbber I can get away with. I buy the cheap ones from Academy and I will push a small nail thru them if I need a little more weight.

I use the rubber football shaped ones, only downfall to those is after several casts they will start slipping if your using light line. Have to keep them changed out but they're cheap.

I started with the cheapie ones. They work just fine if you dont mind constantly resetting the little twine thingy...slides up the line easily. I came on here and asked basically the same question you did and somebody pointed me in the direction of my new setup. BPS has these tiny little slip bobber stops under the slip bobber section. They are SMALL...and you have to weave the line in and out of four holes on it, but it holds it position great and is super easy to adjust the depth. I use the Thill Pro Series slip bobbers. They run about $3-$4 each but are my favorites. The XLarge size are perfect for 1/16 jigs. So, red bobber stop, bead, bobber, then jig with a loop knot. DONE.

Naggler, I will definitely be looking into those thread on bobber stops that you are referring to. Do they have a specific name? I can't stand how the string ones slide all over the place when casting.

They are literally called Bass Pro Shops Bobber Stops. Gotta have good eye sight to get it on, but it doesnt take but a minute and they work so much better. They pass through the guides on your rod better even if you are fishing deep. They hold their position on the line. And they're cheap!

I like the sound of that! I hate the thread ones and the rubber ones get stuck in the reel when reeling a fish in when fishing deep. Hopefully, these will be the ones I am needing.

Balance is definitely the key. It also depends on if you are dabbing, pitching, casting, etc.. I also tend to go as light as I possibly can, especially when casting and making long pitches in clear water. I have special bobbers and/or techniques to do all of these things and more. We need a little more info on what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it to really help you out.
