I know it is a little bit early but was wondering where is everyones favorite spot, lake or river, to fish for white bass when they are running February - April? About 30 years ago we fished Colorado Bend State Park and had a blast catching them off the bank, thinking about trying it again next year unless someone has a great place closer.

Yegua Creek / Lake Somerville.. and we don't wait for February since the whitebass are in the creek already. Usually starts with the first good flush of flood water in November timeframe.

My favorite, hands down, is the Sabine River above Toledo Bend. Mid-Feb to Mid-March is usually very good to epic. It's boat fishing though, for the most part. It would be a journey from Abilene, but I've met people there from Amarillo who traveled that far to fish it.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Buchanan is 2' below full now and should be in perfect shape for a big run at CBSP in Late January thru March. The park has a boat ramp and kayaks for rent. Should be a blast this spring.

The Colorado should be pretty good this spring when the Blue Bonnets start blooming!

Fished Somerville today in main lake, big white bass females hanging around sandbars, look ready to spawn. Made for messy filet job with egg sacks dumping all over filets. Some males leaking milt when handled. I figure next full moon will be first spawn, hope we get some rain to make the creeks run a little, and help them out.Saw something on way in to dock at dusk that blew my mind, birds working, and sporadic fish on surface, mix of big and little whites worked under birds for about 15 minutes. Water temp was 58-60 degrees, never dreamed I'd see that in late December.
