Just got a Ascend 128T on sale for 650. What do I need to do before my maiden voyage. Or if you have any advice on must get items for the yak.

1) Life Jacket 2) Life Jacket 3) Life Jacket 4) Anything that makes fishing easier/more fun for a life jacket get a good one that you WILL ALWAYS WEAR... I Personally don't like inflatables... (i like good neoprene covered sport ones - wear w/o shirt in summer and under my jacket in winter).

+1 on the life vest! As much attention and research should go into it as you did with your kayak. Don't cut corners, get a nice one. Then, just get out there and start paddling!
people should not fear their government, the government should fear its people.

- A good paddle and anchor, if you don't have one already. - Definitely the Life Jacket (one that is designed for kayak anglers) (required by TPWD) - An emergency whistle (required by TPWD)
That's your necessities.
I believe the new ones will already have an anchor trolley, like mine did.
Don't go all out with the accessories. Learn what you'll need after each outing. I did the mistake of getting all sorts of things that later turned to be pointless when I was on the water.
I prefer keeping it simple, but that's just me. We want fishing to be fun, not a chore.
Welcome to the fleet.

I got one for Christmas. The first thing I did was run out and buy a cart. I put some handles on the sides to make managing the kayak easier. I did put a fish finder on it and will prob add a pair of paddle clips to it. With no bungees or clips My paddle fell off on the 2nd time I took it out and I had to use my crappie checker to paddle back and retrieve it. Other than that I'm not going to do much else. Maybe some small bungees to hold the rods in the rodholders. The open design is cool and the stability rocks although it is a trade off for speed. The weight was my main reason for adding the handles and using a cart.

The paddle can still fall out. Get a leash for it.

Add a handle to each side in case you flip it. I learned that the hard way when some drunk degenerate ran into me on Ray bob. Rig a whistle on your vest in case something like this happens to you also. Plus, it's required. Milk crate will help also. Flood it for leaks before you take it out. I had to return two because of scupper leaks. (Was the 2015 version/got a free 2016 upgrade after returning the second return so bps knows the defect) you have a lot more room for upgrades after you take her out a few times. Flip your back hatch because it makes it easier to access on the water. I added a pool noodle to the back and front section of the chair to help it sit a lil higher and it feels a bit more comfortable tome personally. Also resealed the hatches to avoid leaks. Get a dry bag to store your personal belongings and extra clothes during winter months. And a key ring float in case you drop them in the water. Other than that you pretty much have a tank to fish from. You're not gonna set a speed record in the yak, but not much can derail you. And if you fear snakes keep your scupper plugs in during the summer! I had a huge moccasin try and get in the boat that way last summer. Lol As everyone else has said PFD! Make sure to find one that is extremely comfortable because you'll be wearing it for extended periods.
