Here's a kayak trip up towards the Yegua but detoured into Nails creek about this time three years and two major floods ago.

And a year later (2013) the lake began the whitebass run a foot or two low just like the year before..

and for those that are bank-bound.. 2013/2014 was another dry winter so the lake was low at the beginning of the run..

I'm going to attempt a kayaking trip up the Yegua Wednesday morning early. The weather is suppose to be very nice and sunny. Might not be the best fishing day but everything else is looking great.

We made the run up the Yegua Wednesday and it was one of the best kayak fishing trips I've had in a very long time.. The creek is full of black bass, whitebass & crappie and is producing the best mixed bag of fish in my 16 years of fishing the Yegua.

great video. sounds like an awesome day to be out. i was curious, last video up the yegua you cut across a strip of land and this one you searched for the mouth. are the trees you marked no longer there or did you just want to see the mouth of the creek?

john I missed the mouth of the Yegua because all of the landmarks I've used in the past are gone except the big dead tree. Anytime the lake is above normal level the banks of the creek disappear at the mouth. The over-land shortcut is still marked by the tall dead tree and is the route I'll be taking from now on. It does appear the mouth of the Yegua has silted in even more than last time up. The second record flood brought down much more sediment and dead wood and has changed much of the landscape all the way up the creek. I suggest kayakers do the shortcut and drag yak the fifty yards over shallow water & land to the creek channel instead of searching for the mouth of the Yegua.

Maybe this will help you find the Yegua!

Do you need waders to get through the shallows where the Yegua comes into Somerville or will mud boots work?
The Yegua is the one creek I have not been up yet at Somerville. Of course, the times I went up Nails and Birch were back in 2012.

Hip waders are really nice to have but tall rubber boots should be OK too! It is the depth of the mud that is the problem. When I go again I'm heading straight to the shortcut by the tall dead tree, and if I remember right it is not as muddy there and my dragon yak is pretty light The mouth of the Yegua has changed and we could not even find it on the way out!

Anyone ever place surveyors ribbons to mark where it is, or is it best kept discreet?
