Had planned for a while on going today due to light winds. As the rain chance increased I was too fired up to cancel so gave it a go. Put in at Cedar Mills at 9am. NOTHING in Big Mineral from what I could tell. At least not at any of my usual spots. As someone told me in a previous post I "headed west", nothing near the mouth of Buncomb or any of the two coves east of Buncomb. Continued west under the bridge and after a pretty cold and wet few hours of marking nothing but bait we found a few(10 to be exact) deadsticking. Chartruese Jigs from Moes and Chartruese Fluke seemed to be the preference today. All fish were over 5 lbs with largest showing 12.12 but I think I'm gonna check that scale cause I(and my boat mates) thought the fish was at least 15lbs when I got it in the boat. Catching those good fish definitely made the weather easier to tolerate. All fish released in good condition. Back at the ramp by 3pm.

I am trying to take my kids 8&11 fishing next week so if anyone has any info that they would be willing to share to help me put them on some fish then I would appreciate it. They would not have made it today. Pretty dreary out there.

Merry Christmas!

That's some nice fish! Wish we had gone west couple of days ago. Oh well next time.

Nice catch. I have seen a few recent dead sticking post that you guys don't hit the water till 9 to 1030 AM. Do you not need to get on the water before sunrise during this time of the year? I am planning to head to Texoma on Tuesday super early. If the fish don't bite till later in the morning, then I'm all for sleeping in a bit.

They will bite dead sticking all day, if you find them and you present your bait properly and ...... if you go early you might get a little faster action for a bit but usually it doesn't matter much when you get there. I prefer slabbing because it isn't as slow fishing as dead sticking.

That's one of the advantages of winter fishing imho. I live 1.5 hrs away so not having to leave at 5am is a big plus. Also the quality of fish is so much better during the winter. Deadsticking is not exciting until you get into them pretty good which can be done. Then it is pretty frantic cause a lot of those fish need to be netted to land. I'm not a stabbing expert. I need to expand my repertoire.

Merry Christmas.
