I am thinking about purchasing a used van to rig up as a camper for road trips and to pull my 21' bass boat. I have seen a lot of used Fords with a 4.6 liter V-8. Has anyone pulled a boat with that engine? Also, has anyone used a van like this? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Look for a 3/4 ton one with the 5.4L if you insist on a van. When I was service manager with the company I work for we bought one with the 4.6L and carrying any kind of load it couldn't hardly get out of it's own way. Every tech that drove it complained about almost getting run over by an 18 wheeler. The 3/4 ton is a lot more beefier than the 1/2 ton for what your looking for. Any van is pretty much a beer can I was T-boned in one that was only 2 years old is the only reason it wasn't totaled, we had three (one was a chevy) that were rear ended and they were all totaled. Would I let my wife drive one? That is a big NO! Our fleet trucks now are all of the F150 with the service topper. I would suggest a pickup with a topper also. All of this is JMHO, good luck.

Thanks 2015fordnut. To be honest, I didn't even think of the safety. Great info.
