First off, I know that the best thing to do is to take him somewhere that he can try a few out but that probably isn't going to happen this time around. I'm just going to make a decision and hope that it works out. If it doesn't I'll sell it and get another. After going on several guided trips and getting used to them I bought the Pescador Angler 12 that I've had for a while now. In my mind it's pretty tough to beat for the price. So my kid is pretty small and he has no experience whatsoever in a kayak. I'd really prefer to get him the 12' but I don't want to make it too difficult for him. My reason for wanting to get the 12' is that I'll probably only get him out in it 3-4 times per year, and he's bound to hit a growth spurt pretty soon. Add to that I'm pretty sure one of my buddies or my brother will be using it occasionally as well. So what do you guys think...do you think he can handle a 12' ok?

I don't think he would see much difference. The Pescador 10 is 52 lbs and 29" wide, the Pescador 12 is 60 lbs and 28" wide. The Pescador 12 has a 25 lb greater weight capacity. If the 12 is too much and he tires out, you can always tow him.

The Pescador 12 paddles easy and cruises nicely, good choice for a friend to use as well.

My 8 year old grandson handled my 14' kayak Hybrid with no problem. Had him in a Old Town Otter and it gave him fits. He was too small and too light for that one but then I put him in my kayak Hybrid which is 14' X 28" with a 230CM ONO paddle and he handled it well. So I'd say go for the 12" but be sure to get him a good paddle.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

My 12 year old has a 12 and loves it. My 10 year old has an Ocean Kayak Caper and loves it but hates the Pescador.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst
