Fished two Rainbow Trout Stockings this week. Both under some very COLD conditions. The first stocking was on the Blanco River at the Blanco State Park. It was cold and the wind was blowing strong out of the north. I fished four hours and managed two fish. I also had one get off as I was reeling it in. There were about 10 other anglers there and no one was catching any fish. The second stocking was on the Guadalupe River this morning and conditions were ideal. Cold weather, but no wind. The bite was slow but managed a limit of five nice Trout. The current on the Guadalupe is fast due to past rains. Fish were caught on Berkley Trout Power Bait-Cheese colored. Catching a few Rainbow Trout in some COLD conditions. It just don't get any better! fish

Nice report! Is it just me or do the stocked trout seem to have a bit more color to them this year than they did last year?

What time were you there this morning? I think we just missed each other.

Thanks for the reply. cheersI personally do not see the color change. These were bigger than last weeks. I lost four this morning while reeling them in. I had gotten there about an hour before the truck. There were not many anglers there. thumb

Rainbow trout grow at a pretty fast rate...last week's dinks become this week's keepers. I got there about a half hour after the truck left.

I spoke with a person who was fishing and he said he does volunteer work at the San Marcus Fish Hatchery. He says the trout come from Missouri and they are trucked to the San Marcus Hatchery. He said the fish are usually between 5 to 10 inches when they arrive. Give me a shout maybe we can meet next stocking. thumb

Banker, what's your cooking method for those rainbows? I caught a few at the Trout Derby in Georgetown this morning. They had a huge turnout. The park was full of people! Lots of kids and adults having a great time. I plan on going back to my spot next week when most folks will be back at work/school.

I always Mustard dip my fish! Dip fish in mustard, then roll them in your favorite fish fry. Pan fry them in either Wesson Oil or Pennant Oil. Fry till golden brown. They are GREAT! food

Way to go again, Mr. Banker. Looks like you are fishing at Hueco Springs? What is the approximate time the truck arrives?

Thanks Joe Ed and progolferv1 for the replies. cheers Joe Ed. The trout truck usually arrives around 11 am. Sometimes I have seen it there between 9a and 10a or between 11a and 12:30pm . It all depends on when the truck leaves the hatchery form San Marcus, traffic conditions, etc. thumb

Side Note: The best time to fish is the day after the stocking! hooked Just my two cents. 2cents

Nice post Chuck. Two super rivers. I don't think anyone would have caught anything on that Thursday with those strong winds. taz I have only been trout fishing twice but limited both times. I plan on getting my third limit with the flyrod. woot

Side Note: Back flow spots below the Trail Race are holding a lot of fish.

Nice post Chuck. I would not have been out fishing during that first arctic even in my younger years. How would you rate the trout bite this year?

I'm wondering if it is a TP&W regulation that says they can't hatch/grow them in Texas. I talked to a bait shop operator in Burnet that told me that all of the baitfish sold in Texas has to come from Arkansas. It's illegal here for some reason.

I've fished with Chuck in sub freezing conditions and to this day, I don't know what inspired me to do that. He is definitely the most hard-core fisherman I know and my hat goes off to him. I love to fish but I do have limitations.
