Anyone using one of these units? The boat I bought this last year has a hummingbird sx100 so just about anything on the open market will be an upgrade. This is my first year getting into bass fishing , and I'm hooked already....

Great little unit. Key word is 'little'. If this is going to be on the console, then it would be OK. If you are putting it on the front deck then I don't think you would be happy with it. I wouldn't go any smaller than the 5cv.

New fish finder unit is on my Christmas wish list for the family , Would like to keep it under $300.00 which would be the best unit to go for ? I'd take sonar over gps/mapping (wishful thinking at this price point I know).

I'd say the Striker 5cv for 299. 5" screen, Clearvu (used to be DownVu), standard sonar, and GPS. Not maps, but the ability to mark way points and to go back to them.

But keep an eye on BLACK FRIDAY ads. Could be some killer deals.

The whole Striker series is incredible for the $$$$. Also BRIGHT screens, easy to use! You can mark waypoints and it TRACKS your boat..

What is "ClearV: 260/455/800 kHz" comparing the striker 4 and 5dv , besides the size of screen , only difference is the clearvu on the frequency and deeper depth readings.

ClearVu is almost picture like images of what is below the transducer. It replaces DownVu. On the 5dv which is now 5cv you get standard sonar along with ClearVu. I usually run a split screen of standard sonar and DownVu (which is now ClearVu). By running split screen, you can really tell what is below you by looking at both images simultaneously. Clear as mud? smile

How hard are these to swap out ? I will already have the power wires are the mounting point from the old hummingbird unit. Will likely have to drill new mount hole.

Not hard at all. If going on the console with the transducer on the transom, be sure to tie a light rope or heavy string on the transducer cable you pull out the back of the boat. Then you can tie the new transducer cable on the rope and easily pull it back through up to the console.
