Never had a scale certified before, what is the best/easiest way to do it?

Thanks, Tight Lines!

Not sure what Tpwd has to do with it. Find a place that certifies them and take it in.

For the purpose of weighing in a water body record and it being recognizable by tpwd.

Any certified scale should do. There is a place off Camp Bowie West that I've used before, but don't remember the name.

Any scale service outfit should be able to certify it IF (and that can be a big if) the scale is accurate AND repeatable enough to pass their test. Most of the digital culling scale systems used by bass fishermen are not accurate or repeatable enough with a variety of weights to pass the test. I looked into this in the past and did not think it was possible with my equipment (Accu Cull) which was almost always within a tenth of tournament scale weights in events I fished. The next option was to buy a used grocery scale that was capable of passing the tests or a digital trade compliant scale that would pass. Good luck. 'spoon

I have a Boga Grip that I use for wade fishing and some of the saltwater guys I fish with have their Boga's certified by the IGFA. So I was thinking about seeing if I could get mine certified. Thanks for the input!

I may be wrong (often reminded of that anyway) but TPWD does not recognize IGFA certified scales. I tried the Boga certification and the scale service said they couldn't/wouldn't certify it because of the nature of other weighing equipment measuring to the 100th of a pound/kilo. Please let me know if you get this done as I have been trying to get a certified scale but haven't pound an acceptable alternative. 'spoon

Any scale company that is licensed to calibrate scales can calibrate and certify your scale. This has to be done once a year. Send your calibration certificate to Texas Parks and Wildlife Angler Recognition Program and your scale will kept on file as certified. There is information about this on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Web Site. Ron Smith is the program coordinator with Parks&Wildlife. His phone number is on the Website and he can answer any and all your questions. thumb

Side Note: My scale has been in the Parks&Wildlife files for years and is part of the Anglers Recognition Program. It's the Official Weigh Station for Lake Dunlap. I can also weigh fish throughout the State.

Thanks for the info. Where do you go to get your scale certified, and what scale do you have? I work right down the street from Lake Dunlap so I'm in your area.
