Does anyone know what size SD card I should use to export waypoints for a HDS 8 Lowrance unit? Also can I just buy a SD card from Wal-Mart?

Yes you can just get one from Wally world. The smallest one you can buy will be a 100 times more than you will ever need for wpts.

And I insert the SD card in the same spot as the Navionic chip goes?

Sandblaster,
Keep in mind when purchasing the flash card, the maximum card size that can be used in the unit is 32GB. You may also want to consider buying a micro SD card with the full size SD card adapter (many come with the adapter included). The newer units only accept the micro card. That way you will be future proofing yourself in case you decide to upgrade sometime in the future. The HDS-8 has two card slots, so you can install the card in the slot next to your mapping card. That way in addition to saving your settings and waypoints on it, you can also save screen shots and sonar logs if you so desire.

Okay bought a SD card saved waypoints to it. I inserted the SD card into my computer. Does any one know which app to open this file with? I'm not really computer savy.

In order to view and/or edit your waypoints on a computer, you will have to use a 3rd party program. Although, I haven't used it personnally, I read good things about EasyGPS, which is a free download. I believe EasyGPS only works with gpx file formats. You should be able to save and/or upload your waypoints from/to your HDS 8 in gpx format. Quite honestly, gpx is the only format I use for manipulating waypoints and trails for my Lowrance units.

Ok thanks Bandit53 ,it took me a while but it works. Do you have any idea if I can view my Navionics map on my computer and if so how?

You cannot view your Navionics card on a PC. You can however view Navionics maps on a PC via Navionics Webapp. Go to Navionics.com and click on WebApp in upper right portion of page. Once you move the map and zoom in to the lake you are interested in, you can then use the Sonar Charts radio button to see more detail. It is located in the bottom left of the screen.

On my easy gps I see all my wake points but they are all on a blank screen. Is there some way I can import a map in the easy gps so I can see my wake points on a map and not just on a blank white page?

You might see if the Lowrance Sonar View is still available for free download.

Lowrance Sonar View has not been available on the Lowrance website for a long time. I think the latest version offered was ver. 2.1.2. You can find the download on several third-party download sites, but you take a risk that you could have embedded malware, or you might inadvertently click to download the wrong file. If you decide to download from one of those sites at least back up your files, create a restore point, and scan the downloaded file before installing. Or, just purchase a commercial viewer.
