My grandpa and dad are coming to town for Most of late December and Christmas and I want to put them on some fish. We don't have a boat and don't have waders. Is there any places to bank fish (not Seawolf) that we could catch trout, flounder, reds, or other fun fish. And to the guides on here... we might be interested in getting a guide to take us to catch some trout and other inshore species. If the price is reasonable. Thanks in advance for any info!

save the gas and time, stay close to home and take them to a strip club in Dallas.

LOL I agree. Save your money because fishing in the coast is really slow this time of the year.

Fishing can be epic or it could be tough. The further south you travel the less chance the weather will screw you. Cold weather puts the fish in very specific places and you can mop up.

our winter fishing is phenomenal right now, i don't think it is going to get cold enough this year to effect fishing. yes cold temps do play a major roll in it, but every front we have had hasn't lasted more than 2 days. it doesn't have to be sunny and hot to be good fishing.

Wherever you fish, the stories are almost the same. Bass fishing is a warm-weather activity.

I can promise you fishing down here on the Texas Coast is on fire right now. The year we have had with all the rain flushing the bays has made this the best year in probably 7-8 years. I have buddies from Port Mansfield to Sabine who are all on great size and numbers of both trout and reds. As a guide, we know most people don't think of fishing being any good this time of year and a lot of people turn their attention to duck and deer hunting. But, all you have to do is look at every post on any forum or website and fishing is phenomenal. We aren't making this stuff up, this is by far the best time of year to be on the water, for the simple fact there is less boat traffic and the fish aren't getting run over as much. Yes, there are plenty of variables that one has to take into account when planning a trip, and because of that we see less clients in the winter. Summertime weather patterns are much easier to deal with and predict, and for that people simply assume that is when you are supposed to fish. We see our bays fill up with boat traffic every Memorial Day weekend and stays crazy until Labor Day. Typically the first cool front of the year folks hang up their fishing gear and trade it in for shotguns and deer rifles. Every winter this topic comes up, and folks start bad mouthing fishing. In my opinion they do not know the facts, and have never put in the time to figure out winter patterns. I'm not saying that everybody quits fishing, but what we see in our small towns down here is silence, no weekend traffic from out of towners. the boats I see on the water are locals and other guides. So until you have tried some wintertime fishing please do not bad mouth it, because for those of us who make a sole living guiding we rely on 365 days of fishing, not just 5 months of the year.
