I just recently got a new fly rod dedicated for bass fishing trying to target local pond bass and maybe eventually out on the lake. What are your go to flys for larger bass? Along with that what online sites do you all suggest buying flies from since I have no fly shop remotely close to me.

Some topwater poppers, Clouser minnows, and wooly buggers are a good place to start. If you hit the lake, peek at the Game Changer. Casts like garbage, especially on a lighter rod, but it's ridiculously lifelike in the water.

I like a chartreuse gurgler and the chartreuse deceiver. Both tied on either a 2/0 or a 1/0. I like to tie the deceiver about 4" or 4 1/2" long. My approach to black bass has always been "if it ain't chartreuse it ain't not use".

I don't usually use a 9 weight for pond bass but it was a new rod and I needed to break it in before I go to Louisiana tomorrow for a week at Grand Isle.

You can't go wrong with clousers, they're cheap and they work. White and white/chartreuse is always good.

For poppers I've had great luck with Boogle Bugs, they are really expensive but they last a long time.

Last recommendation are Matt Bennett's flies, lunch money is a great bluegill imitation, brunch money is easier to throw on lighter gear. Cheaper than the game changer but with similar action

I've bought a bunch of flies from them.

One time I ordered a bunch from them and they got some of them wrong. I emailed them and they sent the correct ones and let me keep the incorrect at no charge.

Another time they had a 20% off sale and I forgot to enter the coupon code and got charged full price. I emailed them again and didn't hear back, but when I got my credit card statement they had credited me the 20%.

They are pretty quick on filling orders too.

The baby bass colored clouser is my go-to for bass. White on bottom, olive on top with a few strands of gold or copper flash in the middle.
