I know some of y'all have built them. I've never seen one up close so I have no idea on how to go about building one or what's needed.

Thanks.

I started with a blonde chick, about 5'7", 130 lbs, and a dowel rod with a cane tip, that is all you need. It worked well for years until I discovered the "BoBo's thumper. Now I have more room on the boat and no complaining.

Thanks!
I have several ready to go. Give me a call. You can build your own but it takes more time than most people want to spend. It gets tedious getting it all just right to work well at different speeds and how loud you want it.
Besides all tffers get a huge discount over the general public.

I've had a few PM's about drill motor set up so decided to bring my text from my PM reply here.If you are just a little skilled in tinkering, you can do this in a couple evenings.

I had old 9 volt drills laying around that they no longer make batteries for so they were useless. I cut the handle off just below trigger and attached wires to the battery connectors and attached to a 6 volt deer feeder battery, that gave me strong drive motor. I made a cam of sorts by attaching a washer to a bolt with jamb nuts on both sides, I then used a bench grinder to shape the washer into an elliptical, then chucked it in drill chuck. I then used a bandsaw to cut a yoke to fit the drill body, and clamped it in the yoke with screws. Next attached a block of 2x4 as a base to attach rubber mallet to, drilled a hole about 3/4 way down handle and 1/4 way down handle. In bottom hole a sheetrock screw with a couple washers on each side of handle to let it pivot on the screw, then a bolt in the upper handle to have the cam run on to lift the mallet and let it drop. While the drill had a variable speed trigger on it , I wired in a rheostat to increase ease of adjusting rotation speed. Base was a piece of 3/4 plywood. Had all of maybe 15.00 invested, and worked pretty well, Sorry Mr BoBo, don't mean to be stepping on your toes, you seem to be a nice guy by your posts.
Mike

Not a problem sir. Everyone has their own ideas. There were some who made their own before me. After I made mine someone here made a thread wishing they could find a mechanical thumper. I let them know I could build one for them. I built and sold a lot of them for guys on this forum. Some people don't have the time or desire to build one. For me to sell to the public I had to make it look good and use better materials so it would last. Naturally that increased my cost. After I got the patent for it I started getting orders from all over the country. I like everyone else want the things I spend my money on to last a reasonable time period. So far as I know everyone has been happy with my thumpers and how I will stand behind it if problems arise. Sometimes I am so busy building them I don't have time to fish. Fortunately it is not how I make my living. With all the costs there isn't any profit in it yet. Lol Maybe some day.

I, too, built my own thumper. I ordered a small 12V low rpm motor and rheostat on-line, then commenced to using whatever I could find lying around in my shop to put it together and make it work.

I'm a pretty handy guy around the shop, and I was successful in getting it to work. I probably spent less than $50.00

But I will admit - it was a lot more tedious and took a lot more thinking and a lot more time than I expected. Now that the temperatures are getting right, I'm looking forward to taking it on it's maiden voyage to Tawakoni.

My advice to anyone that isn't retired and doesn't have a shop full of tools and scrap material, etc., is to just send Bobo $250.00 and spend the time fishing instead of at your workbench. Once my machine craps out, and it may happen on my first trip, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

What about a door bell ringer mounted to tap
On a block of wood with a variable speed controller
To control the speed of the thumps?
