Nice stringer of crappie! I have never been to Yegua. Might need to give it a shot.

Were you fishing brush piles or just cast and retrieve for the crappie?

Great report and nice creel of Crappie.

What was the average size of the Black Bass you caught? Was that 15" the biggest, or was that the average?

Thanks.

The lake has come up a little more than a foot over the last week with a good release from the dam into the spillway. That means the Yegua is dumping lots of floodwater into the lake and that there is current enough to guide the whitebass into the creek. We are setting up very nicely for some great whitebass/crappie fishing this winter and coming spring.

I have tried using google maps on my phone and a handheld GPS, but I still seem to miss the mouth of the creek. In the open lake there are some sticks marking the channel but the creek mouth can be a mystery unless you know what to look for. You can drag across a sand bar into the creek channel near an old dead tree. There's also a trot line with a blue jug on it marking the dragover spot. Warning. that trot line is loaded with hooks.

All fish caught by cast and SLOW retrieve. The bite was almost undetectable and I lost a few fish due to poor or late hook set.

The bass were probably 15" average. That 15" bass pulled like a much bigger fish. Catching a large mouth bass on a crappie jig and light tackle is a blast, but I bring a net so I can land bass more quickly. I would use a larger lure and heavier tackle if targeting larger bass. I caught bigger bass on Yegua in October. You can see the big one that got away in my video from that trip.

Wow...you caught a bunch of Bass in that creek...nice video and thanks for sharing. I've never fished for Bass in that creek but will definitely have to give it a try.

The LM bass fishing in the Yegua prior to 2011 was pretty good most any time of the year. The 2011 drought killed the creek and it has taken 5 years and two record floods in a row to rebuild the population to what is now the best bass fishing I've ever seen up the Yegua.

That was a really good video of the drought. Amazing how close you got to those pigs.

Amazing video footage of your trek across the lake and up the creek. As usual, you find something good (wildlife viewing), in something most would consider all bad (drought). I was working in Alaska 2011 and didn't have to deal with that drought. Thanks for sharing. I hope you keep shooting stuff with that Canon.

Thinking about kayaking up the Yegua Saturday morning but the weather forecast is really odd.

took Monday off and went to Nails Creek SP. i intended to paddle up the Yegua but with a strong headwind and water coming over the top of my yak, i decided to take a left turn and head up Nails Creek instead. ended up catching 15 with a mix of bass and crappie. most caught at the corner where Frog Pond cut meets the creek. brought a couple home for fish tacos
