Does anybody on here use an ATV or Side by side to maneuver their rigs around your property?

I plan on buying a bass boat this year between 19ft-21ft that would fit in my backyard, the only problem is backing it in my backyard might be a chore with the tight spaces (alley) and small double gate fence I have. Right now I have a 14ft kayak trailer that I back up into my yard with my long bed double 1/2ton and although its not difficult I think it would be much easier with an ATV or SXS and would like to use it to maneuver the bass boat as well.

So if anyone does this already, can you recommend either an atv or SXS and what size(HP/cc) should I be looking for? I would probably prefer an atv because of the size(storage) and affordability but I am open to what you guys suggest.

Many ATV's I have used have a pretty weak reverse, not sure how well they would do backing something up if there is distance involved.

I would try it with the truck first.

Interesting to hear that. I never owned one or used one before but researching this topic, I stumbled on a video on youtube of a guy backing up a pontoon boat on a tandem axle trailer. That was the only reason that made me think atv's were capable of this.

You could always put a hitch on the front of the ATV. It's a little different at first, but easy to get used to.

Put a hitch on the front of your truck. Trailers are easy to back when hooked the the front. If its fairly level ground I'm sure a larger 4 wheeler or SXS would get it done also.

A SxS will do it all day long. I move my 22' CC with the Ranger from time to time. You might check into the Trailer Valet's as well.

I think the hooking to the front is a good idea. It should move it just fine, especially using the forward gears. My buddy's father used a regular old golf cart with an attachment on the front to maneuver his twin engine 4 seater airplane into the hangar. Worked really well.

I use my golf cart and pull a 21' boat all over on a gravel driveway, in and out of the shop. Nothing will pull well on soft ground.

Be aware that most Sxs and ATVS will have a locked differential, which will tear up your grass if your not careful.
I've used my wheeler to move boats and other stuff a lot. I also use my mule (Which has a lockable rear diff) and have NO problem moving anything I want.

If you have a big yard kill two birds with 1 stone and buy a 46"+ lawn tractor with a hydrostatic transmission and put a hitch on front.

I am looking for the same thing. I see photos of lots of 4-wheelers with trailer hitches. How big of an engine should I look for to move a bass boat (Ranger Z521)? I assume those little 4-wheelers made for kids is not enough?

This. Way cheaper than a UTV and much more useful. If you don't need a UTV for something else, why spend the shekels? Unless you already have the metal lying around, you can buy a front hitch for not much more than it would cost to build.
