Really no joke that's what I usually do just thought someone might have some better details about the crappie bite but if you have a problem with the post don't reply.

I don't understand some of these responses. Atypical of this forum.

I was there a few weeks back. The fish had not yet moved up toward mid-lake / dam area where they usually go in the winter. The water temps were still too high. I expect that transition will occur soon based on this cold weather toward weeks end. I plan to make a trip there soon and will report on what I find at that time. I would try the deep water first (main river) and then move up the lake toward alley creek and fish the timber if the bite is slow. Always a good tip at the Pines is to follow the boat traffic.

Good luck.

We have been doing very well in 20 to even 35 foot this past week. Most of our fishing has been done from Johnson creek point back towards the dam. We are targeting known brushpiles and small feeder creeks leading into the main chanel. The best bite has been coming off smaller profile jigs no heavier than 1/8oz. Best color is any mixture of blue or a red crawfish color. A great bait is the copper mine tadpole from Thermocline lures.

Use your electronics to eliminate a ton of water. The bite is very strong. When these crappie bite you know it!! They are taking the rod from you!

Being patient right now is key. You will need to look around to find the best water holding the fish The cold front coming to congregate the fish better but there areas right now holding a large amount of fish and they are big this year!!

Hope this helps you and everyone out
