I use the cabela's brand stocking foot waders and they work great so far. When it gets a bit colder I wear fleece wader pants underneath them. If/when I fish and it's really cold I'll break out my 5mm neoprene duck hunting waders. They are clunky but warm. I can't recommend the cabela's brand wading boot though. I've only used them a few times and the toe protector is already separating from the boot in two places.

Thanks for all the info. I just need to get out to Allen or down to Dallas.

The ol' neoprenes! It's nice to have it in reserve. Man, if it's COLD, there ain't nothing better. I know breathable fabrics are choice in the cold on a dry mountain, but sitting still in a soak, yeah...old school neoprenes are money.

And while I'm posting, the BOA lacing system is fast and swanky, but I think it's flawed on a wading boot. Works swell on the ski slopes where it was designed for, but the grit and gravel of a riverine environment changes the game.

A failure of that deal SUCKS. Trust me - either getting it on, or off, becomes a real freaking headache when that mess dumps the bed.

Gimme laces, every time. Paracord is an easy fix.

Haha, yeah. I've replaced/repaired enough BOA ratchets in the ski shop to not consider it for submerging it for extended periods of time in a creek.

Second, you get what you pay for. More expensive waders will last longer if taken care of, and you'll get better customer service on them down the road (Simms, for example, does a great job in that regard).

In cheaper waders, where I have noticed the first issues to be on wader failure are in the seams. The seam tape starts to go after heavy use. Especially in the neoprene booties. The seam treatment in a higher end wader will be much better and more durable.

That all said, you can go get a sub-$200 set of breathables from BPS or Cabela's and get more than a couple years out of them if you stay out of the briars and hang them up to dry after use.

Again, though, you get what you pay for.

And all waders eventually leak.

You are spot on. I purchased the Magellon Mag2 waders and loved them. But they started leaking at the seams after a year. I purchased a set of cheap hip waders made of rubber and they leaked at the seams.

I too have been reviewing this on the internet. No question you get what you pay for when it comes to waders. The top of the line Sims, Patagonia, Orvis all rated high on seams, durability, gravel shield, etc. When it comes to budget quality the Cabella's brand seem to get the best reviews.

I can get away with hip waders for the majority of the fishing I do. I walk through heavy brush, briars, thorns, etc. quite a bit so I'm looking at something more like a canvas or heavy pvc/rubber. I can deal with the sweating but I can't deal with cold feet, LOL

Any hip wader suggestions with maximum puncture resistance and quality construction?

Is there a specific model (for lack of a better word) of Cabelas waders to look at?

BassPro Ospreys and their boots have been working well for over a year now. My major discovery was figuring out how to lace the boots to fit and stay properly. Then I found this video and apply it to all appripriate footware. Hope it helps.

Yes sir! Thanks for the heads up anyways. Always appreciate a good deal. Got their boots too, even got free studs with the nicer boots.
