Is there a Time and place for both egg sinkers and no roll sinkers based on application or is it just simply preference? I use both but don't always have a strategy in mind with it. I feel like an egg sinkers rolling around with a shad on it might make the shad look like its struggling more but that's pure speculation.

If there is a time and place for each can someone give examples?

I'm fishing from a boat since that might make a difference.

At one time I used no rolls...but over time linked deep water fishing and leader wrapping on my main line to spinning no rolls as they fall through the water column.

Regular eggs fixed that.

With no current, it's hard for 3oz of lead no matter what shape it is to move much on the semi soft floor of a Texas lake.

I had that same problem with the no rolls wrapping the leader. I've gone back to egg sinkers.

Thank you for the feedback guys. I have had issues with the no roll sinkers wrapping around the line as well and I feel that the shape causes it to get hung up more often. That is one of the reasons I went back to the egg sinker.

You are probably right about neither really moving around a loot on the muddy lake bottoms of north Texas though.

I still like the no-rolls myself. Admittedly, I fish only a couple of different patterns for blues, neither being in deep water. So I have yet to experience the wrapping up issue others elude to above.

When casting, I stop the line right before the bait and sinker hit the water to straighten everything out, then drag it all to me a bit after it hits the bottom to insure it's all strung out the way I want it to be.

One area I fish in particular has a pretty hard clay bottom, and a fish will roll an egg sinker a long way across the bottom at times. With a no roll the circle hook sets much quicker due to the added resistance of the sinker dragging across the bottom instead of rolling.

Just my experience, not saying eggs don't have a place, but for me and what I do the no-rolls work better.

No rolls work best for me. MT Pockets made some good ones and reasonably priced.

Egg sinkers seemed to wiggle side to side on the main line on windy days
causing a worn spot.
