I understand you use a swivel to eliminate line twists. Do you attach swivel directly to the split ring or use leader? What size line do you throw it on?

Many variables there. I always attach swivel to split ring. Use 12-15 lb line. Usually fluoro

Remove the stock split ring and replace with a sampo solid ball bearing swivel. It comes with split rings on both ends or a split ring and solid ring, which is preferable for your line tie.

I fish my spoons in the trees quite a bit, and my advice if you do is to use 20-lb line. 15-lb is fine in open water. But all the fish I found last weekend were either in the limbs of trees or clustered around the trunks.

I've caught quite a few this fall on flutter spoons but about 10 times as many on jigging spoons. The flutter spoon does seem to get them going if they aren't chasing bait.
