This afternoon almost the entire arm I'm on at Cedar Creek (Cedar Branch at Enchanted Oaks) was FULL of shad. I know this lake is loaded with them, but holy cow! Only way I've been able to catch bass since moving here a couple months ago is pitching docks -- and even then, not consistently. I think when shad are THIS plentiful, it's just going to be tough. Have thrown crank baits, spinner-baits, lipless, top water, buzzbaits and soft plastics in and around all the shad, to no avail. Suggestions welcome. (Took this pic as I headed back to my dock.)

Don't fish around schools that big. Too much competition.

I fished there last Monday, as soon as I launched I noticed a lot of birds. I cruised on over and there was probably five acres of shad, I threw all around it, got one bite.

This happens quite often on Dunlap and it makes the fishing terribly slow. The entire lake will look like that. I and several others have tried nearly everything, inlcuding arigs, every crankbait known to man, swimbaits, a float with every shad looking bait we could find underneath the float, spoons, pretty much everything we could think of. We see the fish on the graph, they just wont eat what we are offering. The only way I can get bit is to throw jigs super shallow to target fish that are eating something besides shad.

Yep, totally frustrating. I have had some success on ripping a trap through the school then letting it drop. Rip and drop. Gets hit on the fall.
