I assume yellow bass posts go on this forum.

Niece is home from SoCal. She wanted to go fishing, so I agreed to take her out. I don't have any idea how many we caught, but we had three dozen minnows, and 18 night crawlers. They barely lasted three hours.

I know some people eat these things but I never have.

It was great watching her have fun. Non stop action.

Fast action is fun.

Most of the yellow bass I have caught are so small they wouldn't be worth cleaning. I do know some that do eat them, and they say they are good.

They are good to eat (all white meat no red) and fight hard for a small fish.
Save your minnows they will bite small slabs just as well.
Great fish for kids to catch, I bet she was having a blast.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Yes, if they are big enough to clean, they are great eating. Nice firm white flesh. Prepare as you would crappie.

In some lakes there seem to be more yellows large enough (9 to 11 inches) to eat. In 1995 Richland Chambers had huge schools of yellows feeding on the surface - competing with the white bass. Most were about 10 inches - plenty big enough to eat. At Cedar Creek today we catch a lot of eating size yellows with some going 12, 13, and 14 inches.

Our pond has tons of small ones that hang out on the bars in the main river. They are consummate bait thieves. There are times when you find schools of them in the 10 inch range with some bigger.

Mother Nature is strange indeed. I have never caught one @ Lewisville, Grapevine, or Roberts. Probably a good thing.

I have caught plenty of them at Tawakoni over the years. Never thought to keep one and eat it.

We catch a bunch of them but never anything over 10". I have yet to eat one but would like to try it if I can ever catch one that actually has meat on it. smile

We just caught a bunch at caddo lake, plenty of eater size there. Great fight, great taste and yes, they will bite slabs, jigs, etc. I caught a bunch on a cotton cordell slab (chrome) and different color crappie jigs.

They are very good to eat...I fry the little ones whole...very clean tasting.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
