You're a brave man Dan. No way I'd go on Lewisville in a bass buster in the winter!

Ha ha. Well I dont have a death wish. I will be watching the weather. Always have my life jacket on. And stay close to shore, in protected areas as needed.

I think Lewsiville is more dangerous in the Summer. I wont Kayak it or bass buster it in the summer. Too many drunks. They scare more than hypothermia.

Alright fellas I'm taking my quest for the big blue cats to the water today.

I've got my mackerel, new rods and the USS Cap Size ready to launch. Hopefully I'll have some luck.

That's my boat.

No bites today. I did find a nice spot to try bank fishing tomorrow. Graphed it thoroughly.

Has some bait, standing timber, and a nice funnel or ditch that's 7 feet deep on the sides and 18-22 down the middle. Looks like a spot where when the water was lower during heavy rain the runoff from the parking lots dug a ditch.

I figure I can put two baits down the middle and two up on the shelf and see if they prefer one location over the other.

I even got up on the bank and marked off where I should Place rods and at what angle to work the various "spots on the spot"

I have a good feeling about that spot! Saw some nice fish hanging around there too.

Use real bait and not that California BS you were talking about.

No bites today.

Spent time working on my cast net skills. Getting it down pretty good. No shads on the ramp or off the docks.

Give it another go next week!

Started the day in crazy thick fog!

Even though I was fishing in a small area that I know well at one point I found myself disoriented and actually had to use the GPS maps in my fish finder to find the ramp!

No bites. Fished 5 spots an hour each and nada. Threw the cast net but no luck on shads so used my mackerel.

Funny story in the thick of the fog a bobber floats by. I grabbed it. It's a Santee rig! Line broken at the swivel and it has a giant shad head on the hook!

I tied it onto my rod just as it was. Still nothing.

Couple of pics. You can see my rig compared to the found item.

PS if it's your gear I found let me. I'll be happy to return it.

I did it!

Caught shad in my throw net from my tiny boat!!

I caught them as the battery on the "Cap Size" started reading 11.2 volts. Uggg

Did not have any luck over 6 hours with my mackerel.Fished the shad in the same areas for an hour and nada.

I'll figure this game out yet. I need to get to deeper water, but the wind hates me on days I can fish.

Catching shad was huge for me. Spent hours learning how to throw the net of my lil boat and finally some success!

Well, never cared much for blues, ( gave away two 16-18 lb. ones so I had enough floatation in my 10' jonboat to brave the waves back to the boat ramp with 4 flatheads!)

But, yeah, small boat...big fish...you don't bring a 50 lb. Flathead in the boat sideways...(unless you want to swim with it)... But straight over the front of the boat...( just like getting in and out into a tube!)

Dear Blue Cat,

Sup bruh!? I tried to meet you today over by Lake Dallas. I had a tip you might be kicking it there. Unfortunately after launching the SS Cap Size I realized quickly that the waves were way too big and I couldn't hang out and wait for you to show up.

I headed over to the old dam off Garza to see if maybe you wanted to meet me on the bank instead! Unfortunately although I tried for six hours you never showed up. I understand you're busy this time of year but it'd be really nice if you would just say what's up.

Anyway I'm sorry I missed you man but I know that I will catch up with you soon!

And when I do I'm going to fillet you and give your head to my dog. You know she's pretty upset at you as well. She's been fishing 6 times and hasn't even seen you once! She's just a puppy dawg, she's never seen a fish. That's just disrespectful of you blue.

Keep it real blue cat... and know that I'm coming for you. I won't be stopped.

Here's a picture of the set up at the Old damn, just so you know I was there for real bro.

I'll see you soon.
