Does anyone on here use the Xi5 or has experienced it for tourney fishing? Do you like it when fishing shallow with the foot pedal? Is it worth the extra money? I like the concept and wondering if it is a good investment for south east Texas lakes.

Love it. Use it in tourney's all the time. Throw the foot pedal in the trash, I couldn't get use to the foot control and only use the hand held remote.

Recently lost anchor mode and Motorguide took care of it, wasn't the best service but it got fixed. Anchor mode is by far the best feature.

The two issues for me are
1. Get too many weeds on the prop and it likes to pop fuses, so carry extra fuses.
2. I have the built in transducer so no DI unless you wrap air hose which looks terrible.

Also having a lanyard hanging around your neck causes the remote to catch on the TM head when you deploy the TM. In rough water it is possible to go overboard.

Experience... The first time I used mine was in a tourney. Lost two fish over eight because they swam through the TM while in anchor mode. Remember when you hook up to turn the prop off or head to back of boat.

All in all best investment I have made on my boat, especially for tourneys. Surprised more people don't use them.

At first I thought it was a slow response. In reality it was the lack of feedback I was use to with cables. I had the same issue when Cat went from hydraulic controls to electric over hydraulic. It took some getting use to..

The handheld is just superior IMHO and most guys that I know that run the Xi5 only use the hand control as well. I carry My foot control in the boat just in case I have a total failure of the handheld.

"Surprised more people don't use em"?

Really? It sounds like a piece of [censored] and a headache. Losing "a" fish isn't worth it in a tourney. And not having a reliable foot pedal? Sounds good to me....not! Neither does going overboard because your lanyard caught the TM head.....and fishing without a DI or SI because it wouldn't work on the shaft? Really?

Sounds like. Miracle that it is even sold!!!

Get a Fortex.

Slow down.. no need to come at me like that!

Foot pedal is reliable read my post above yours. No where in any post did I say it was not, I said I couldn't get use to it.

The lanyard getting caught is a habit change with the way you deploy the unit. Turning off the prop when you hook up is also a habit that is needed or at least something you need to be aware of.

Can't argue the lack of a built in HD xducer.

Xi5 is a great trolling motor and if you fish offshore it's a great investment.. You catch a fish or change lures in 20+ wind and stay on your spot no problem.. I had a Fortrex on my last boat and I fish offshore and windy points a lot. I would catch a fish and blow off my spot and have to trolling motor back to it.. that's time wasted.. So if you beat the bank buy a Fortrex
