I've been fishing from an OK Scrambler for ten years. I've been aching for a "modern" fishing kayak for several years, but never pulled the trigger. I became intrigued with the Pescador Pro because it offered the nice chair and other features at a lower price. I pulled the trigger last week and my son and I spent all day (minus a late start) on Bastrop with it and the old Scrambler yesterday. WOW! I had no idea what I've been missing. It's a million times more comfortable, tracks so much better, has so much more room. I can't believe I fished from the Scrambler for so many years! I was always amazed to hear that you guys could stay in your yak all day, etc. After three or four hours in the Scrambler I was dying to stand on land and stretch for a while. No wonder! The Pescador Pro was amazingly comfortable. The Scrambler is a corkscrew in the wind. It was amazing to take turns with the new yak and do a side-by-side comparison. The wind would push the new yak a little as the Scrambler slowly did a 180 and headed for the other side of the lake. I Had hints on trips with buddies that I struggled with the wind more than some but I had no idea my Scrambler was so bad until yesterday.

Bottom line: if you love kayak fishing don't wait ten years to get a decent fishing yak!

I'll post a photo of the now slimed yak later. Headed out the door to gibbons creek now.

I have used the same old beat up craigslist kayak for a few years now. I am scared if I ever try a new one I will have to buy it.

I wish I did not read your post. your bottom line statement hits home for me.

Congrats ....I sold a 12'foot slayer and bought a pescador pro 12 best boat ever in my opinion. Before that I had a ride 135, ultimate, tarpon 120, ride 115, and still have my commander. After I bought my pescador I bought one for my son for his birthday and I'm selling the ride 115 and buying a pescador for my girlfriend...

My primary fishing spots are small lakes, creeks, and bay areas

I'm sold on the boat I like the open front for gear or fish, nice seat, stable, fair amount of speed, light weight, great set up for fish finder and a great price.... the con: rod holder to shallow I think I can extend them with pvc pipe

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY CATCHING

Academy has the Pescador 14 on sale for $399 ($200 off). Never tried it, but at 14 feet long and only 28 inches wide it should be pretty fast.

The rod holders are a joke. A wasted effort on their part.

Second trip was to gibbons. Fishing wasn't great but the kayak is super nice. Mounting my sonar this week. I've ordered the lowrance scupper mount. Looks pretty easy...knock on plastic.

I've seen that one at the Academy here in College Station a few times, and every time I pass it I drool....that seat would be amazing. I have a Pescador 12 with the regular seat, and while it's a great kayak it gets uncomfortable pretty quick. Other than that I love it though.

if you're looking for rod holders, just make a rocket launcher out of PVC utilizing your existing rod holders behind the seat, mine held 3 rods and my net, with a spare for an anchor light. and if you're fishing salt water those flush mounts will get your reels dunked ALOT, and that's hard on reels of any quality

I eventually plan to do this. I'm using a couple of holders attached to my crate right now.

I continue to love the kayak, just frustrated that the weather and my breaks from work and family commitments have not aligned enough in the last few weeks. I'm chomping at the bit to go fishing.

Sonar installation was incredibly easy.

Took my fifth trip in my new Pescador Pro to Somerville. Fished a few coves and the islands. I continue to love this thing. Best fishing related purchase I've ever made. Handles a little wind and chop well and is faster than I thought it would be. Fishes great. I actually get a little giddy about it. smile
