What bait do you like best? If you skip a jig what (weight and brand) do you like best and what trailer do you use with it.

I use flourocarbon anytime I'm flipping or skipping around docks. I use a 6'8 rod heavy action. You don't need a 7'6 flipping stick doing this. I like mpack jigs 3/8oz, because you can get through anything and everything under a dock and as long as you got a good skip down their easy to get too the back. I use xcite chunk craw or zoom z craw or hog

Hardest thing I have tried to learn by far. Still trying to get it down consistently. 7' rod with 16# flouro. Rod is a med/hvy. 3/8 or 1/2 oz jigs. Look for a head design that looks like it will skip. Flipping jigs usually have the better design with a curl up to the line eye.

While you learning it's easy to skip a Strike King Shadalicious Swimbait or similar on a lightly weighted swim-bait hook.

I like using a shorter MH rod, 7'0" Savy Series Dobyns rod
35 pound power pro braid with a 4 foot flouro liter (15 pound p-line tactical)
Learning the FG knot is critical for this braid to flouro connection!

My go to is 3/8 oz Texas Rig Gambler Burner Craw (Although it's hard to beat a half oz jig)

I'm not the best skipper, I have to sling it to get it to skip. Did well the fall using 17 fluro, 7 foot heavy(Dobyns704C. I used a Stike King perfect caffeine shad on a Mustad 4/0 Ultra lock Worm hook. I used 2 bobber stops and a 1/16 tungsten work weight. I could adjust the weight this way and usually had it between 6-8 inches above the hook.

Can use any rod and any line to skip a bait anywhere you want to skip it... just takes time and practice to be proficient. There is no magic set up or key combination.

I've had the best luck using a 7'3" Cara, with 20lb Ivizx. Bait doesn't matter too much, but a 3/8-1/2oz weighted bait is easier for me. Set you brakes to very loose and spool loose as well. Cast parallel to the water and around a foot or less above the water. Raise the rod tip slowly as needed, during the cast, to accommodate and spool over run. And keep your thumb in the game.

I need to work on my angle to the water because most of the time it hits the water and that's it....no skip..LOL

I will keep at it. I plan on using a V&M and a Santone jig to skip with because of the head design and because both are great jigs.

Be prepared for the biggest backlash you've ever seen. All it takes is to hit one of the dock supports. I would find a dock that sits high off the water to practice with and gain experience and confidence. A lightly weighted fluke or ribbit skips well across the water. Be patient, takes lots of practice.

Haha.... biggest backlash for me, ever, was yesterday. RETYING MY HOOK! Brakes off, spool loose, needed a few more inches of line to get a good palomar loop.....and I pulled. And POOF! Horrid!

Shows you're experienced Steez, you can laugh about it. If you've never backlashed then all you've ever used was a spinning reel. I backlashed today too. Was flipping flooded willows, got a bite and tried to set the hook and the reel wasn't engaged. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I swear the bass was even laughing. That's how I get new line on my reels, lol.

I hate that! I'm.bad about doing the same thing but not engaging the reel and just throw my line overboard then there's a mess.
