There is no G1 designated unit, that would be the discontinued Helix 7 series.
If you check the specs on the HB site with the above link, there is the G2 and G2N versions. The G2N is networkable via Ethernet. The discontinued Helix 7 is not linkable.
Both of them have CHIRP 2D sonar and the imaging versions have CHIRP Imaging also. They have faster processors and several features that the discontinued version does not have.
You will have to refer to the legacy unit listing to get the specs to compare with the new ones.
Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3, Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

Lakemaster has more features but the Navionics usually has better detail. So I have both but prefer the nacionics

Bass Pro had the discontinued Helix 7 on sale with Nav+ for $550. I made the long drive, and naturally they had sold out early this morning. I will not rush to brick and mortar stores again of their big sales. I may just stick with internet buys.

You can download the lake list from the Humminbird Lakemaster site to check. What you want to look for are waters that are listed as Lakemaster High Definition Survey. Bold letters with (*). Those are very good, the other two types--not so much. Don't have to guess with Navionics, both of their map layers can be viewed on their website's Web App. The maps are current as of today.

Yes via Humminbird Chart Select.
Download and install the Chart Select software, then you can make the purchase.
You have to ENCRYPT a blank memory card with your unit to load the map to the card. One map per card so get carried away with GB size. 2 is plenty but hard to find. I use 4 GB when I can find those. I got some real cheap class 10 8 GB cards by Transcend the last time I purchased memory cards. Make sure you get the microSD size that fits your Helix 7.
PM sent with additional info.

Jerry, I have both cards. We can go out on your boat and plug each one in and see which you like best. The Navionics may have more detail, I havn't compared them that closely, but the Lakemaster will give you some features with the Humminbird that you won't get with Navionics. It will let you adjust the lake level offset to correct readings when the lake level is high er or lower. You can mark shallow areas to show up in red and if you want to fish a certain depth range, it will let you highlight that. I don't know if the Navionics chip has those features.

Humminbird still needs to fix some inaccuracies on their website. They have many of the G2, no "N" listed as having optional networking. I think only the G2Ns can be networked in spite of their site information.

It wouldn't be the first time, probably not the last.
