Instead of carrying a bunch of different sizes of swimbait hooks in various different weights, I just carry 3/0, 5/0 and 7/0 unweighted swimbait hooks, with a few loose weights and I'm ready for all situations. Also works great for lightly weighting frogs (Fork Frog, horny toads, ribbits, etc) or weighting soft plastic jerkbaits (Hyper Sticks, Magic Shads, fluke and senko type stuff).

So the weight doesn't change the action of the swim bait even with a twitch motion?

I use lead golf tape and wrap around the hook to achieve the desired sink rate

this works to, just slide the weight right on the hook. Tom's idea seems to be a little more discreet though

So the weight doesn't change the action of the swim bait even with a twitch motion? If you put a couple 3/8 oz weights on there, certainly would change it at some point. But the little ones don't seem to change the action, often need it to keel baits so they run true instead of rolling up.

D.O.A. lures makes a "pinch weight" for this situation. http://www.doalures.com/product-p/65-100.htm. You can cut in halves to achieve the weight you want. This is much more efficient though, nice tip Tom!

If you pull the rubber out of these and clamp them on the shank, they work well too. They won't go past the hook bend and you can change weights without having to pull your swim bait off the hook so it saves the life per bait too. Just a little pry with a pocket knife and it's off no problems.
