How many of you are using side imaging up front on the trolling motor and does it make a difference?

I put a total scan for my Lowrance on the trolling motor, it is pretty darn neat, now if I just new how to read it.

Happykamper is that total scan transducer mounted on a motor guide by chance? If so what type of transducer mount did you use? Been thinking of doing this but wrestling with how to mount it on the motor because of the size. Thanks in advance

Yes, Humminbird Side Imaging. It's a fishing tool so it is where I do fishing on the boat. Have the bow 360 transducer also which is Side Imaging transducer that rotates. I see what is under the transducer and what is "over there" too.
I have used a Humminbird 798ci SI Combo, then a Humminbird 1198c SI Combo, then a Humminbird ONIX 10 SI NT, and now have a Humminbird Helix 12 CHIRP SI GPS at the bow.

I did then stopped when I broke the transducer. I just put a new si transducer back on it today. I could live without it though. I mainly just use the 2d up front.but that probably has a lot to do with the size of unit (899). If I go up to a 10 or 12 then I'll use it more.

Have a buddy that has SideVu on his up front and likes it. I have SideVu on the console but just ClearVu/standard on the front with Panoptix. I like the real time view with Panoptix.

I have been using it up front for a year and I can say I like it. I can see structure to throw at as well as keep my casting distance from structure I am fishing.

Using it to know I am 40 ft away from the structure and casting to it is the biggest plus.

I do hate that when I go shallow and hitting stumps there is a $250 transducer hanging on the bottom of my trolling motor. Other than that it is nice to have it up front also.

I'm the buddy of Ringfry. I've had Sidevu up front for the main reason is this is where I spend 99% of my time. There's not a right or wrong answer it's just what works for you. P.S. Garmin's Striker 7sv gives you a color 7" screen unit with Sidevu, Clearvu (down), standard sonar, and GPS for $499 Complete. Terrific unit, easy to use, and reasonably priced!!

Fishing is not a matter of life or death,
it's much more important than that!

I fish a flooded timber lake similar to Lake Fork and crash my SI transducer into stumps/trees a lot. Never a problem after I solved the possible cable damage from those impacts.

I put a Helix 9Si up front this summer and I have enjoyed having it up there. It generally stays in the SI/Sonar split screen or the SI/DI/Sonar view. I have been working on fishing deeper and having the SI up front has helped me stick with it a little easier.

I run two Helix 10's on the bow with Side Imaging and a Humminbird 360 bow mount. I absolutely love the setup.

If you fish shallow alot it isn't worth it imo.

No it is mounted on a Minn Kota, they make a nice and strong mount for the transducer, I am sure they have one for the Motorguide.

Humminbird Side Imaging is. The best thing you can have during the spawn. It will show what is away from the boat hundreds of feet as long as the transducer is not buried in the bottom and the bottom of flat enough.

This is 100' of coverage in less than 2' depth:

This is 200' of coverage in less than 4'. Weeds on the right and a bass on the left:
