I'm sitting in my deer stand as I write this after being up all night cooking briskets so I'll make it short and sweet. Fishing has been steady between fronts in 22-28' water right on the bottom. I''m targeting rocks along the dam and points on south end of the lake. Been tying two 1/8th ounce jigs on and drag jigs along bottom slowly. Best bite is when dragging not hopping, bouncing or yo yoing but dragging. Color has not mattered much. Caught them on every color I have which is about 4. Sometimes tipping with a piece of cut minnow/shad will help. Most days bite is subtle. Will just get a spongy feeling. Some quality fish are being caught. If your interested in a trip I have some open dates next week.
Be polite and spread out from boats that are not anchored up and please don't cut people off that are working down the rocks. 2 miles of dam, there are fish all along it.
Be safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving

Jerry I have never fished Lavon but looked at the lake on navionics. I noticed the main river channels go right to the dam area. one goes right in the middle of the dam. others up north tie into larger ones and meander down to the dam as well.. all roads lead to rome (the dam).. . would it make sense that the reason the fish are there is due to the shad migrating up and down those channels?
Several lakes in my area, the fish dont hang on the dams in winter, and trying to realize why.

That could be one reason but the creek channels on Lavon are silted in for the most part. Not much of a channel left out there. I truly think the main reason is that is some of the deepest water on Lavon is along the dam and north to the island. Once it gets really cold the fish will move out offf the rocks and into deeper water as the Shad move out.
I would go to the deepest area of my lake and look for nearest points, humps, brush or ledges in that area. There will be fish somewhere you can count on it. They are going to run up creeks or run deep. If I had a defined creek channel I would check along it for sure.

thanks Jerry, is the rip rap rocks along the dam large boulders or small boulders, because I have read that baitfish prefer larger boulders so they can go hide, with the smaller stuff they cant get in the there as good.-
One thing I notice on one of my area lakes, is theres certain huge boulders that grow algea on them, because of thier orientation to the sun, consequently good amounts of shad tend to hang out in those areas, attracting gamefish.

Belton has 100 foot plus deep water and SUPER steep drop off cliffs near the dam. its a huge deep hole. . at certain depths, there no life, no oxygen. I have been doing ok in other areas, but not sure if the pattern will hold when it gets real cold.
Nobody that I know of has been able to crack belton winter crappie, but im going to give it a try this year.
