Sam Rayburn Report for November 2016

Water Level: 160.88 = 3.5 feet low
Water temp 65

Sam Rayburn is on fire and has been over the past couple of months! I was talking to one of the local tournament sticks the other day at the boat ramp and we both agreed that it is fishing better than it ever has for overall quality and we can now call this the good ol days.

This major cold front has not put a damper on the fishing as it only dropped the surface temperature 4 degrees since Friday. The lake is currently 3.5 feet low and dropping which is great if you are an offshore angler as it is sucking all of the water out of the shallow vegetation. There is still some hydrilla to be found in the backs of most creeks and pockets around the lake and I am hearing reports of some decent catches coming from the shallows on topwaters, spinnerbaits, traps and plastics but I do not usually fish less than 10 because the offshore bite is so good right now. It has been relatively easy to find the deep fish because they are relating to mainlake ledges and shad if you have some basic knowledge on how to interpret the images on your sonar. We have been catching 100+ bass a day for the past couple of weeks on deep diving crankbaits, Carolina rigged plastics, spoons and dropshots. The key is to not stop until you see the fish on the graph. If you position your boat on most main lake drops and scan in the 12-18 range looking for shad, you will eventually come across some catchable feeding bass. If there is a brushpile in the vicinity it makes it that much better as most of our bigger bites have been coming in proximity to some brush, not necessarily in it.

Now through the remainder of 2016 I am running a discounted rate for catching trips because I have been tasked with tagging 202 fish on Sam Rayburn for the Bass Cash Bash. We will be tagging bass trying to place tagged fish over the entire lake. We will solely be catching them using the depth finders so it will be a great time to learn as well. Call or text me at (479)970-3388 if you are interested.

For those of you looking for a tournament to fish this Thanksgiving weekend, my buddy Clint Wade is putting on a big bass tournament out of Casell Boykin called the Big Bass Turkey Chase.

That's more info than I've seen in a long time given out about Rayburn...

Headed to Rayburn this weekend. Do you think this little front will effect the bite?

From my experience, cold fronts seem to only start having negative effects once the water temp drops into the 50's. The fish are feeding hard so I don't think anything is going to knock them back. I forgot to add that the evening bite is the best.
