Is it possible to upgrade this reel to faster gears? I've had several C4 reels in the past with the 6.3:1 gears and the thought crossed my mind. This reel is the original design and without currently having a C4 to compare parts with. This model reel has a unique bearing assembly. Just wondering???? Any thoughts???

Call Eddie @ Dads Ole Tackle. They are Abu gurus. I just got three back from them and they did great work as well as answering some questions that I had.

I've tried changing the gear years ago and didn't work. If I remember right the uc and c4 have different brake plates and right side plates to accommodate the larger gear.

I was hoping it might be as simple as changing the gear and pinion, but it's sounds like a challenge now. I've replaced these several times on old Ambassadeur Black Max reels and it's given them a new life.

Try Japan Tackle,they have some custom gear set for some Abu.

On a different note, I've read some people have noted that because of the tighter, more precision tolerances this reel doesn't cast as well. I noticed this and I changed the brake blocks out to the blue ones and now it will cast better than my Revo's. This thing is built like a tank!!!
