I've been "trying" to target Blue Catfish lately. Not doing too well, so it's time to get some feedback if possible. This time of year should I be using small or large cut baits? Should I place the bait off the bottom? My biggest problem seems to be actually hooking the fish. I've been getting some good takes but no hook ups. I recently switched to Team Catfish Double Action Hooks. Did I fall for the hoopla..or do the hooks actually work? I'll be using them on my next outing. When a decent blue takes the bait, do they peck at it a bit, or will they take the bait and run? I would prefer to simply wait till the rod bends/loads, but I'm wondering if I should be more aggressive? Thanks for any tips.

Try a larger hook. Where i fish. Little and big blues trend to nibble and slam. Also once through your bait is enough. TC hooks over any...

If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

Yes the TC hooks are great!! Just let the fish run with it and then reel down into it. Although the double action hooks are designed to set both ways, they work best when used like a circle hook. I have had them stay hooked on the TC hooks for hours when camping. Go to bed around midnight, check them again in the morning and fish still be hooked. I prefer a three way rig when bank fishing. with a small float on the hook side on a shorter leader than the one with the weight. I have also had good success with Santee rigs off the bank, but I break off more. When i first set my lines, I will have some with big baits and some with smaller to see what they want today and adjust from that. Hope this helps

I bank fish for blues. I use a simple carolina rig with a no role sinker and I also use a float on the end for my bait just to keep it off the bottom. For baits, I use a bluegill head as my big bait, bluegill filet as my small bait and crawdad as my live bait.

Thx, if you don't mind, how much of the head are you using and how often do you change out the bait? I usually vary the size or how much of the body I leave attached. I do like to have some fresh blood oozing. Do you think it would be worth putting some shad paste into the mouth to provide some scent?
