I saw over on the bank fishing forum that the 2016-2017 trout stocking schedule has been released. I noticed some of the places I fished last year are not on the schedule this year. Does TPWD ever add to the list after it is first published? I have also noted some ponds that list fish in the pond and trout are included, but I didn't see them on the schedule last year or this year. Is the sign just indicative that at one time trout were stocked?

Anyway looking forward to the short season as the bass haven't been super productive the last couple of weeks and the other sunfish have pretty much disappeared for me.

Best course of action I can recommend; reach out to TPWD by email or phone. They can update and advise from the source.

Decided to check out South Lakes Park Pond in Denton this afternoon.... Struck out on trout but did get several little crappie and a bluegill! Overall, had a fun time getting out on a chilly but nice day. Today's Video.

I wish they would stock big bream rather than trout, seems like a big waste of money on a fish that is hardly edible and dies within a couple months. Anyone else agree? Or am I the only one?

Hard to find a city lake that has any decent bream.....nor catfish, nor bass, but yet they put trout in them each winter.

Not to mention the stocker trout get smaller and smaller each year. 20 years ago they put decent ones in there...these 8-10" trout don't cut the butter.

The TPWD trout stocking program, whether we realize it or not, is really for our kids to get out and catch fish. And for that, I can't wait either!

My kids are both in their 30s.

The intent may be for kids, but last year I observed about a 5 - 1 ratio of adults to kids.

And if so why are TPWD stockings mainly occurring when kids are in school?

The above is a stupid question I guess. TPWD stocks on days it's employees work. They would have to pay overtime to stock weekends or late Friday night.

I agree, but bream and catfish would live year round, spawn and continue to provide year round enjoyment and eating.

Invest in something that provides returns year after year....not for one month.

Visit our city lake (once they stock trout, cause here isn't a bream in there) any day other than the "one" kids fishing derby and you will find old men with their buckets and corn(which is often left in the can to sit in the sun).

There has been some healthy debate on this topic in past forum threads. I can see both sides on this issue. I am disappointed in the small size of the trout as 'Bass-Bustin-Texan' remarks. Also frustrating, in my opinion, that many city and community ponds/lakes are already fished hard for bass, etc. but stockings rarely keep up with amount of fish being taken out.

Arkansas has tried hybrid stripped bass (1-2 pounds) in some of their public ponds. Since a lot of the small community ponds get hammered for their keepable fish anyway, that could be an option for spring/fall.

They do stock catfish in many of the same ponds that get the trout.

I would vote for big bream also. They are a ball to catch on light tackle. When one hits my fly on my 5 wt. rod it feels like a small hybrid striper.

Made it to Heritage Park - one of the three ponds in Flower Mound that were stocked with trout. Rain let up, so had to make the run down the Tollway for a go at Rainbow Trout. Overall, the bite was steady with lots of folks getting bit. Power Bait and Corn seemed to be working; did see several taken with fishing flies but could not tell if anyone had strikes with other lures.

Fun time...but had to put on a PBRG (Power Bait Rainbow Glitter) in size 14 to get a limit! Post.

Where do they stock on the Guad? I'm trying to get as close to the location as possible for better odds this weekend. Anyone know where I can find a recent fishing report?

Hit up Lazy L&L today and got skunked on trout. Pretty crowded at the Devil's Playground, looked to be tough day for everyone. Only saw two fish landed all day, one spin fisherman on powerbait dough and a guide boat which pulled what looked to be a solid fish in front of me.

Spent all day on the water from 8-3. I threw everything I had at them today, rubber legs, eggs, copper johns, nymph rigs, dry droppers, nada. Did land this pretty red breasted sun fish with some nice colors to avoid the complete skunk though.

Planning a return trip for Monday to celebrate 2017 and get even with those pesky trout if anyone would like to join in.

Trout were moving about and feeding on the surface at Bethany this morning. After working different parts of the pond, settled in on the "point" and was able to limit out sight casting to passing schools. Video Post.

They stocked the pond in Kennedale yesterday. Went out today with my 3 wt. Water is a couple of feet lower than last year. Caught 6 and kept a limit on a #16 rainbow warrior. Hooked several others but they got off. Finally got tired of the rain and cold hands.

Bait fishermen weren't having much luck but lures were working pretty well.

I'm going to hit it again tomorrow morning.

Had issues with slow downloads for mobile smartphones. Made some changes, seems to work better, save for when the GoogleBots start doing their thing. Here is another post that should run better along with the upcoming events post....

Today was tougher. Caught 1 on the 3 wt and the rainbow warrior. Trout were breaking the water further than I could reach with the 3 wt so switched to the 5 wt. After awhile put an indicator on and got a couple of bites but no hookups. The rainbow warrior was pretty torn up so switched to a gold ribbed hares ear nymph and picked up a couple more. Saw something busting surface by some cat tails and caught 2 bass. Largest was about 2 1/2 inches. All fish released.

Fun time limiting out on trout at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Dry Flies were the key this round with the Griffith’s Gnat in size 16 being the “go to” fishing fly. But, as luck would have it, ran out of them. Did manage to get the trout to bite on other dry flies despite losing my mojo at one point! Post.

Here is a variant of the PMC Emerger to think about; combines the PMC Emerger and the Griffith's Gnat! Calling it the PMC Griffith's Gnat Emerger or PMC GNE. Next time will bring more fishing flies so as not to run out; will include this one in the fly box along with the Griffith's Gnat. Hope to see if this variant produces!

Forgot about this fishing fly but while fishing Saturday had a remind us about it. Been using the Near Deere, Griffith's Gnats, and PMC Emergers lately. But, our version of the Guadalupana is a good one to keep handy! Tied a couple this evening! COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly.

Made the run across the border to the Lower Illinois River in OK to extend the Trout season just a little longer. One of us limited out on trout; the other did not. Still working the video. For now, here is... Today's Catch! Only two were caught with fishing flies.. one went for a Guadaulpana and the other went for a variant - Near Guad (Guadalupana tied on a Near Deere jig fly hook).

Similar to Beavers Bend, the Lower Illinois is stocked year round! Good to now when the itch to go trout fishing needs to be "scratched"!

The lower Illinois below Tenkiller runs only a short distance before it empties into the Arkansas river. There are some really big stripers hanging out near the conjunction and trout are like candy to them. So that's another option when fishing there.
Also the Illinois above Tenkiller and a tributary called both the Barren Fork and the Baron fork have a nice supply of smallmouth. When I lived in OK, the Barren Fork was one of my favorite places to fish.

Thanks j_hirn2!

Hoping for another chance at trout; another run across the border to OK. No fishing today as we are on the road but how about a ukelele and a 50s' song to start the weekend! Ukelele Anyone?
