WAXAHACHIE — The search for volunteer boat captains and mentors for the WHS Fishing Club has begun. Howard Junior High Math teacher and Fishing Club sponsor Andria Bone was recently made aware that, in order for the students to participate in upcoming fishing tournaments, they must have adult-aged boat captains and mentors. “At tournaments, each team consists of two high school anglers and one boat captain. The captains must be at least 19 years old, have access to a boat, have $300,000 liability insurance and have a boater’s license, if required by law,” Bone said.

Upcoming tournaments include Possum Kingdom Lake on Nov. 19, Lake Texoma on Feb. 11, Lake Whitney on March 25 and the regional tournament at Lake Palestine on April 22.

“I need volunteer inquiries to go to the district PIE website and register as a volunteer. Fill out a background check form, make a copy of your driver's license and send it to Melissa Cobb. We also need a copy of the boat insurance at tournaments,” Bone stated.
