You have the San Jacinto River, Lake Houston, Caney Creek, Peach Creek, and Luce Bayou all at your back door. And the entire Texas Coast for some real fun. There are many ponds and lakes in the area, and if you don't mind opening up your range to an hour, there are several great spots to hit the white bass spawning run and the crappie spawn. You have a lot of great fishing there. Go see Jerry at The Woodlands Orvis shop for info on fishing The Woodlands (numerous ponds); he has a great presentation that he will gladly share. And the carping in Houston gains in popularity daily; there are now several guides conducting carp trips there.

Or check the top of the forums for "Guide Reports," and Danny Scarborough. He's also at www.houstonflyfishing.com, which pretty much nails it.

He is on Facebook and other social media too. I follow on Instagram, and he posts clients or personal fishing results pretty much daily. He's got some fantastic spots and knows which flies to use. Large carp, gar, and plenty of bass are a regular occurance.

+1 I've fished with Danny. He can target a number of different species and has created some really exceptional flies. Great guy to fish with!!!

I guess I should add: I fish with Danny regularly, and have for years now. And I have the same opinion as J-Moe and KurtActual. He's always looking for the unusual too, like bowfin.

You left out that Danny can catch fish in a bathtub or a horse trough; he's a natural fish magnet. I can't recall ever seeing him get skunked.

A simple way to fish around Houston is to find any body of water that holds water year-round and try it out. There are so many small bayous and community ponds that are un-named, but have largemouth and sunfish and catfish and gar. It would take many, many years to fish them all.

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Last sentence is so true. So if you decide to hire a guide (when is the last time I heard that?), he / she can add years to your catching, and take years off the looking.
