Been Catching a lot of 7 to 8 inch Bluegill every time I have been going out! The Bluegill have been super active this fall as well as other types of fish. Bluegill on Dunlap are hanging around docks and overhanging tree limbs in 10 to 14 feet of water. The Bluegill in the creeks are hanging close to the banks by brush piles. They are also hanging by drop offs close to the deeper pockets. Worms with a bottom technique were used. Fried some up the other night and they were GREAT! Fall fishing Bluegill. It just don't get any better! fish

Winter is definitely coming. I caught a few right on the bottom in 14 feet of water at Joe Pool last Wednesday. This upcoming hard freeze (24 degrees) should put the cork in the bottle.

Great looking platter of fish, Chuck.

Yes Sir they are in winter patterns for sure on the Guadalupe River. Caught some good eating size Bluegill while fishing for Crappie. They were holding on brush piles in 14 to 20 feet of water. Also docks in 12 to 15 feet of water had some nice ones. woot

Thanks Gitter for the reply! cheers Found these in about 10 feet of water. After this current Arctic cold front the Gills will be deeper! 15 to 20 feet! thumb

Awesome catch, way to go. smile How do you think the immediate warming trend will affect the fish after this cold spell? Seems to me the panfish have been scattered, deep one day, shallow the next, etc, etc. It's been hard for me to stabilize a pattern while bank fishing for them. Never in the same spot twice. lol...

I have always taken advantage of the warm spells during the winter time. Seems that the Bluegill and other sunfish get active and venture out looking for a quick meal! I usually find them in shallower water especially after the second day of the warm spell! thumb

Side Note: This weather pattern has me confused! nuts

Hey Chuck! Me and Jeff were catching some nice Bluegills off of Mcqueeney the past weekend from Jeff's dock. Some of them had eggs!

Howdy all. I've been off the grid a couple years battling cancer. Still a battle but God is good and faithful.

Two questions

1-my kids and wife are taking me camping at Guadalupe River State Park during sling break. Any luck with gills or crappie there? What set up?

2-Does anyone know a reasonable crappie guide near Houston? I've never been with a really good crappie guy except once and it was a blast.

Thanks guys and I hope to be back in the loop after I can stop looking at the fish in aquariums at MD Anderson Cancer Center ! ☺

God bless y'all. I've missed hearing of your successes.

Blessings,

Michael

Thanks Curtis and taking5kidsfishing for the replies. Curtis: I have caught several nice FAT Bluegill this past week but I released them. Pretty sure they were carrying eggs. It would not surprise me if we see a spawn at the end of February or very early March! hmmm Taking5kidsfishing: Will put you on my prayer list and hope you get back on the water and into the GREAT OUTDOORS! I have not fished the Guadalupe State Park in a while. The last time I fished there I caught nothing but small Bluegill and bass. As for rig I myself use an Shakespeare Ultralight Combo with a size six hook, and a size 5 shot with six pound test line. A carton of night crawlers is my bait. I thread about a quarter of the worm on my hook leavening the tip exposed. Cast where ever you think a fish might be. I usually work the bottom with a very slow retrieve. Tactics can change depending on the bite and water body! thumb

Side Note: Taking5kidsfishing: Got your PM! Give me a call whenever you are in my neck of the woods! Would love to meet ya. cheers

Yes Sir I think there will be four spawns this year. The water temperature on Mcqueeney is still on the cool side. I think mod March will be the first spawn! Just my two cents. 2cents

Side Note: Crappie spawn right around the corner also! woot
