Here's how I see it.

Technology is changing so fast that you can never keep up with the Latest thing so why try. Once you can see enough to locate the structure you need to fish then you are there.

Before you keep upgrading ask your self "Will I catch more fish". A prettier picture is nice but "will you catch more fish?"

You are right. I caught just as many fish if not more with my old trusty 997.

I'm not a S/I or Mega I guru, but I'm in the market for a new graph. If the Mega is so much greater and only $100 or so more, why wouldn't you go with the Gen 2? Thx for any advice.

Ernest makes a great point. It would only make since to go with the new G2N only if you are in the market or simply want to stay in the new.

I see what I need to see with what I have. The current units are staying and are suffice in finding structure and or fish. The rest is up to you.
