I had the pleasure to treat Brian Spagnola (Texas Motorcars) to a day of thumping on Lewisville. TMC has been a long time sponsor of CAT since day one. It had been quite some time we've fished together; for that matter, Brian hadn't been boat fishing for crappie in 4-5 years. He's one busy fellow so it was a real treat to get back together.
I have to say, he committed the cardinal sin of fishing. As I eased up to our first spot, I was getting the boat setup, Brian had rod already out with pumpkin/chart jig and the next thing I hear is splashing at the water top. He'd already caught what turned out to be the 3rd largest fish of the day! Even if it's been awhile, he should know better than to catch a fish on first drop of the day. That is a hex; a big NO NO.
He hasn't lost his touch. He caught most and on the jig. Fish were caught in 14 ft and near bottom. Later in early afternoon, black/chart was the ticket but we had to leave.
I knew the moonshine would be hard on us and it was. Early morning was good but when the clouds disappeared, the bite stopped until about 1/2 hr before we headed back. Brian stuck the 2nd largest as I was prepping for the return to the ramp for good measure. We only caught 10 but they were all quality fish. You will see only nine in the pics. I asked Brian, what was that splash. He said, I threw it back in. Uh? It was at least 11 inches. Lols. His bar is set higher than mine I guess.
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip Brian and you're welcomed anytime we can together. Have fun at your 'surprise' birthday party.
I also want to thank E Paty for some tips. Unfortunately, the wind was more than predicted - as usual. EP - the two largest were caught where you and Rick saw us at the TSCC. I wish we had hit it earlier, maybe the stringer would have been fuller.
