It didn't seem to matter if it was brush piles, stumps, timber, or drop offs as long as the depth was right and my jig was on the bottom. I tried a plethora of different jig sizes and colors and the best was any plastic in the Thermocline Lures Copper Mine pattern. I was using 2" flukes and 3" tadpoles and they didn't seem to care about the size difference. I fished from midlake to the dam and finished the day w/ 24 blacks and 1 white crappie. No giant whites on this trip, but solid 11-13" thick black crappie. Also had a limit of largemouth and found it's way into my cooler. stir There is no need to rush to Pines just yet. The fish are still scattered and I had to cover tons of water to get my limit. Give it another month before you take your vacation time.
Good report...thanks. Seems like the crappie are rubbing their bellies on all the lake bottoms right now.

Thanks for the reports guys. I was there a couple of weeks ago and didn't have much luck fishing more from Hurricane Creek toward the dam. The crappie had not yet moved into the cooler weather pattern and were certainly not in the deeper water as of yet. I think we need 2 or 3 cold spells before that happens. When it does it will be game on.

I went yesterday also. Caught mine on minnows in 14-16 ft over brush in Copeland creek and Tejas areas. They seemed to prefer the rosy reds over the shiners yesterday. Ended up with 24 keepers - ran out of minnows. No great big ones and not many under 10 inch. Most were just nice blacks 11-12 inches.

Took 3 cinder blocks for that one because it was still water logged from when the water was up. I used a total of 10 blocks and barely sunk all the trees. cheers
